He retired from touring in 2018 due to Parkinsons', but hasn't retired from writing and recording music. He still has around 110 unreleased tracks and an unreleased album.
Thx for the nifty info ! I have always admired his writing style and voice, although I was more into other singer/writers like Harry Nilsson, Don McLean and the like.

He took an unknown group of guys and made them stars. Unfortunately he died way too early.

I remember the day Jerry died. I got home from school, turned on MTV and they broke in with the news. I cried. I never got to see him.
So sorry to hear that. Many years ago some friends and I went to a little club in San Francisco that hosted bluegrass bands. I mean this place was tiny and the table we were sitting at was about 6 feet from the stage if you could call it that.
After the opening band a scraggly bearded bespeckled dude came out with a banjo and I only then recognized it was Garcia with Grisman on mandolin. They were awesome.
I’ve seen so many bands over the years but this is one of the absolute high points ever.

Read their book “So many Roads” for the definitive account of the band and the man.
What’s weird is but I used to live near Perry Lane back in the day as a kid without knowing who was down the street.
