What’s your coolest hobby ?

I'm pretty good at guitar. Was better in my prime like 20 years ago.
I'm studying singing because fuck it but I'm no bueno.
I carve wood but very inconsistently. I'm talented at it but I don't give it the time.
I'm decent and having a nice garden.
I can actually fight and having a good time doing it.
I can lift some weights and do some calisthenic shit.. I'm planning to develope the front lever, planche and finally learn how to do muscle ups. I guess that would be cool.

I used to have a lot more hobbies when I was younger.

Most of my life I was really into bodybuilding - I guess I still am, but getting older has forced me to back off of the drugs and heavy duty training. Another life long hobby has been computers - overclocking, water cooling, building custom gaming rigs etc. I no longer play games, but I still enjoy tinkering and keeping up to date with the latest developments.

A more recent hobby has been cars - while I have no mechanical inclination, I have fallen in love with American Muscle Cars and Japanese Imports. Now that I have a little bit of money, it is a hobby I can actually indulge in.

Annoying buyers and their obsession with grading. I wasn't a fan of grading myself and that's gotten expensive too. Problem is when selling raw cards online people have these expectations of getting a 10 in the mail every time and if they don't they want a refund.

But probably most annoying thing, thanks to Covid, is how expensive buying wax had become. I was buying cases of Bowman Chrome Draft for $1300 ten years ago. Now, a case of Bowman Draft is pre-selling at Chicagoland Sports Cards (my store of choice for years) for $4700. No thanks. The chances of recouping that money is small. Granted to could buy it, not open it, and flip it later.

But that has exponentially increased the cost of single cards if you want to avoid wax. But honestly even the buy in on singles is making less fianacial sense these days.

I still have some of my good vintage stuff and I'm still on the fence about grading those. To me, grading only makes sense on vintage. I still have some of my good Colts collection too. But I probably sold off 80 of my collection about three years ago.

Now, I buy rare records and spend $100 or even $200 on something nice, and I can put it on the turntable and get more enjoyment out of it and not have it sit in a box and worry if I'm going to lose hundreds or thousands of dollars on the resale like I did with cards.

That’s understandable -it’s the same reason I basically don’t bother purchasing packs or boxes. It’s just too damn pricey and the odds of landing a card you’re looking for are slim. I learned quickly that cutting to the chase and paying that premium for the card itself made more sense fiscally. Why spend 200$ on packs/boxes chasing a 100$ card you probably won’t pull when you can just buy the card?

Anyway yeah, I got back in prior to COVID and remember seeing PSA graded Mahomes Prizm/Optic/Select selling for 50$ a pop more or less. Within a year I watched that jump to 1k or higher. Many instances of those cards getting well into the 5 figure range.. shit was insane. I was able to scoop up some good stuff but my Achilles heel was learning on the fly what was what. By time I had a grasp of what I should go after the jig was up. All that free time and COVID money people had flooded the market and killed it.

Now the big issue is Fanatics cornering the market and holding up printing and fucking up Panini releases so you can’t get product to begin with. They’re bleeding Panini as much as possible while Panini holds the NBA and NFL rights. It’s a fucking mess

That's another point you bring up that I forgot. Exclusive licenses on products is a main driver for price gouging and quality issues too. And if you don't like the product, what are you left with? Unlicensed product? Lame.

Giving trail class BJJ guys hell

I'm hoping it's going to be a good year

I love playing chess. I read a lot of books on the topic, take seminars, and just really enjoy watching the game. I am nowhere near a top player but I just really like it.
