Were you surprised that Buffer introduced Chandler as “former Bellator LW champion”?

No. They couldn't care less about Belloltor, it's crap commentary team; the ramp; the jumbo tron; horrible cards; no five round main events; and an organization being relegated to CBS sports.
UFC should use the ramp and jumbo tron

Bellator commentary team won't shut the fuck up about the UFC, but other way round didn't happen that I remember until yesterday.
haha, yeah sorry, the post I quoted I mis-read and thought you were referring to Bellator, my bad.

Well, it’s better to promote Chandler that way...with specifics because almost every fighter in the UFC was once a champ on some little org in their hometown somewhere. Chandler being the Bellator champ justifies why he was on standby for Khabib or Justin, or all of a sudden in co-mains for the casuals.

Also, Bellator has been around for a long time. Chandler was a flagship fighter for a decade. He has several heavily viewed fights on YouTube. I’m sure more MMA initiated fans, even casuals, are aware of its existence and status as the number 2 MMA organization and Chandler being the more known fighters from them. You’re not hiding them from anybody and are only hurting your promotional options otherwise.

we’ll see if they announce Volkov as a former Bellator champion in his upcoming fight. I don’t think they will.

Yeah, that'll be an interesting tell actually. Also Lyman Good.

I don't remember them doing it with Askren, though and you'd think it would have made sense then.

I was pleasantly surprised...

The UFC normally doesn’t acknowledge that other organizations exist...

Gaethje, Morales, or Ivanov were never introduced as former WSOF Champions...

They never mentioned Alvarez as a Bellator Champion either...

Last time I remember them willingly mentioning Bellator was when they were trying to hype Joe Soto vs TJ Dillashaw...

Yes, not only that but Anik mentioned Bellator both at the weigh ins and during commentary. They also included it in one of Chandler's graphics IIRC.

Dunno why as they've always ignored Bellator in the past, part of me wonders if something is afoot.

Have Bellator even announced any events for 2021 yet?

Not yet, but there's been a couple of fighters who seem to be preparing for fights. First event will likely be mid February.

I am not surprised that they mention it in connection with a guy, that is now in their organisation. Basically they are saying "we've got your best guy now" (or at least trying to convince us that is true).

They probably expected him to lose, so it made sense to mention Bellator and what they thought was an "inferior" product.

yep. had me thinking they might have purchased it. they always refer to other organizations when talking about fighters coming from bellator

That's what I think. There were rumors a while back that Bellator was up for sale plus they currently have NO events scheduled.

OTOH purchasing Bellator would not look good given the anti-trust class action lawsuit.

You only don't mention your competitors when they're like, actual competitors. UFC ain't afraid to mention them because Bellator's only thing is "B b but our LHW divison is better"

The ufc consciously avoided mentioning Bellator for over 10 years.

That's my guy. <mma4>

What will you do if it turns out the UFC have bought Bellator. <6>

Waste of money.
Most of the name fighters are fighters UFC cut or did not renew with.
The few own brand fighters they do have.. are they really worth buying the whole org?
Also Bellator as a brand is not that good.

No I don't think they'll do it either.

The only thing I do think might be possible would be for Ali to buy it and work more favourably with the UFC.
