Were you into jets growing up?

A little bit. I grew up near an air force as a young kid. I can remember one of my friends father was a fight pilot at the base.

Sure was, still am. F16 was my favorite jet but I liked vintage ww2 planes even more. I grew up near a small airport that would bust out the c-130, a p51, and a corsair for memorial day. The noise those old planes make is absolutely glorious and thinking about them dog fighting Nazis really captured my imagination.

I don't like pulling Gs. I'm scared of rollercoasters. So not for me.

I thought they were cool but never got into them

When I was growing up, I love this fighter jet.

Just thought it was a badass plane.

More of a tank guy. Always though air shows were they ga.......lamest stuff ever

Also Top Gun is a ga....lame movie

I gave up on Jets when i couldnt get enough pepsi points to get one.

I was always more partial to WWII warbirds. My best friend’s family were all aviation enthusiasts, and they were basically my second family (still are).
But I did recently go to an air show. And after watching an F-18 super hornet fly by at the speed of sound and rip my face off, the WWII planes seemed somewhat pedestrian after that.

I still think the P-51D is one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery every designed though.

I thought everyone had a favorite jet

It's news to me if people don't

Kinda 2 way tie for me between the f18and 15. How could you not think a fully armed up hornet isn't super duper bad ass. 22 is kinda growing on me.

I love that where I work is totally in the air show path and I get to see it and the warm ups every summer.

I played the Ace Combat video games from PS1 to PS4 and that's how I ended up learning the names of the various European fighter jets and ended up buying some Hasegawa, Revell, Italeri plastic model kits and watching Japanese cartoon Area 88. I often see and hear the loud F-22's taking off for practice or taking hot girls for joyrides.

In one of the Ace Combat games, I used the F/A-18F often early on because that was one of the better multiroles affordable and had a long range anti-ship/sub missile for fire and forget. The F-2 (Japanese F-16) also had a similar missile. I also often used F-15S/MTD w/canards, F-22A, Eurofighter Typhoon, Rafale, A-10, Su-34.

Don't want to be that guy, but the A-10 isn't a fighter, it's an attack aircraft. Fighters are designed for air to air combat and attack planes are made to destroy ground targets.

That's how much I was into jets lol. I had family members in the air force and thought I was going to be a pilot when I grew up. But personally I was more into attack helicopters and wanted to be a Commanche pilot as a kid but then realized I would have to join the army, not the air force, and the US army canceled the Commanche program anyway. Ended up becoming infantry lol.

Sorry I mistook for it to be a jet fighter. Thanks for the info.

Maybe people are interested, here are some interviews with the top two British pilots in the Falklands War:

Sharkey Ward

and David Morgan:

that I listened to a while ago. They both have books out as well (although Ward died in May).

I listen to this guys Youtube channel all the time. He flew F16s and F18's in the Navy and Air Force as well as worked as a commercial airline pilot. He does all sorts of aviation related content. Him breaking down Mishap Reports is really interesting. I highly recommend giving him a listen.

Years ago Topps and Pro Set made Desert Storm trading cards and in addition to key people involved in the war, they made trading cards of the fighter jets and maybe some tanks, helicopters. I think Topps is the one that had a bunch of errors where the photo was not the plane named on the card.
