Werdum x Miocic: worst champion performance ever?

Aldo was mentally affected by Conor's mind games. Werdum was just cocky and had spent more time trolling than training.

Conor was literally practicing that sequence in the locker room. It's clear that he saw that Aldo would charge him, at some point, whether or not anybody else did and was prepared for it.

It wasn't a brain fart. It was a masterfully executed trap by Conor. It happening in 14 seconds doesn't change that.

Overeem, JDS, and Ngannou all got big promotional pushes by the UFC, but all fell short.
Call me crazy, but I think that Ngannou is doing very well, especially since he KO'd the other guys you mentioned him with.

Chuck forgetting the beating Rampage had already put on him and thinking he was still fighting Babalu / Horn level UFC contenders...

GSP vs Serra
Aldo vs Conor
Shogun vs Jones

are the top three

other contenders
Barao vs TJ
Woodley vs Usman
Eddie Alvarez vs Conor

Miocic also went straight to Ngannou's fists just because he landed a jab

When a traditional stance fighter throws a right hand from a power position, that is not called a jab.

Lol, yeah, I should've specified in his first fight with Stipe. The point I was trying to make was that Stipe was never the UFC's pick to be heavyweight champ; the org always seemed to favor the guys he was fighting. The worst was probably his first fight with Francis. He got all the push from the org, the media, and most of the fans here IIRC. Francis did great adjusting his game-plan in the rematch, though.

I dunno, arguing that Werdum was clowning Stipe on the feet and the fight would have been some kind of foregone conclusion had Fabricio not bum-rushed seems to be... a bit of a stretch. It was more competitive than that.

That said, I also don't think a competitive striking match followed by the champ having a brain fart and doing a big stupid and getting caught for it is deserving of the "worst performance" label.

Jose Aldo vs McG was close.

Id say its worse because HW is basically a crap shoot on the feet

My pick would probably be Holm/Rousey because Rousey went from being the GOAT women's combat anything on top of the world to basically no body

One of the worst, for certain. I'd put Woodley against Usman in there, too. Dude got emasculated for a full 5 rounds.
I mean Woodley was so surprised he fought someone who was physically stronger than him. That combination of strength and stamina Kamaru possesses is not natural, especially since he cuts about 30 pounds to make weight.

Miocic vs Ngannou 2 comes to mind.

Stipe looked utterly helpless.

Only survived because he kept running away but even then he was getting beaten up around the octagon. The second he decided to step forward he gets brutally KTFO.

Werdum was landing shots at will on Stipe... Stipe honestly had no answer for Werdum's muaythai... so Werdum got carried away and forgot he was fighting a HW boxer... and got caught running forward.

Werdum simply got arrogant. He was on a tremendous roll at that point, and his striking was working for him even against strikers.

If he fought like he did against Fedor, Stipe wouldn't have gotten that belt... but woulda coulda shoulda... easy to get carried away at the top.
Revisionist history, stipe was winning this fight pretty obviously. Stipe checked every kick and landed his own kicks. He was landing the more meaningful strikes and controlling the cage.

In fact, fabricio was already rocked when he began running forward and got KO’d

watch it again, I promise you’re off on this

yet we could clearly see, in that gif you yourself posted, Stipe was 1) rocked and probably wasn't thinking clearly and 2) that was a huge shot that made Ngannou wobble. Can't blame Stipe for that.

GSP, a man whom many consider the GOAT, tapping to strikes from a bloated midget LW BJJ guy.

I mean with Stipe/Werdum and Aldo/Conor, the champs fought until they couldn't due to getting KO'd by a guy as big or bigger than themselves.

Ronda's performance against Holm was pretty bad too, especially considering how much hype there was behind this once in a humankind athlete.

Unable to grab a hold of Holly and completely lost on the feet. Started winging punches and made to look like a fool, and then emphatically knocked out. This wasn't just some fluke KO or a brain fart, this was a seemingly invincible champion thoroughly dominated by a challenger

That gif is so embarrassing.

he wobbled stipe, and that was his only chance on winning. took that chance and it failed..... not the worst performance

Stipe is quite possibly worst matchup that Fabricio could have gotten. Werdum was inferior wrestler and boxer by a long shot, I would be surprised if he won that tbh. I just can't see Werdum taking Stipe down and if some lucky punch didn't land on feet, he was gonna get pieced up, sooner or later. Too bad that BJJ was quite useless in that matchup.

Yuuuup

People who said no one thought stipe would win didn’t know who stipe was and didn’t listen to me lol
