Went to Germany for work....my impressions

Bro you got taxi scammed
You should of been hip to that being from canada
They always try to do that cash shit or overcharge in Vancouver
But I understand you had been travelling and probably over tired

I don't think they claim to be less racist. They are progressive in the sense that they provide sane social services and don't let big business destroy peoples lives/rule over them. But that's where it ends.

Most of the world is racist, and they don't see anything wrong with it, unfortunately.
I was under the impression that Europeans kind of had the idea that they were more multicultural and less racist than us. Either way, you’re right. People are still people no matter where they are. And they’ll always find a way to discriminate against other people. Whether that’s skin color, religion, sexuality, or whatever, humans will use it.

I think you’re kind of right in the sense that they tend to speak more languages and know about the history of other countries, not just the one they are from.

They do look down on Americans for being so insular. And American racism is a bit more outrageous in some ways, since (some) Americans tend to be racist against the people who built their country for free..

While many criticisms about us are definitely warranted, this one is ridiculous. Of course we’re insular. They can travel for a couple hours and they’re in a different country.
I can drive for 8 straight hours and I’ll still be in th same state.

And also when I was in Italy, a bunch of people were waiting for the train. A Spanish couple was trying to figure out the train schedule and asking everyone “Habla Espanõl?”

I was the only morherfucker there who spoke enough Spanish to help them. All the other people were like, “What?” (Or however you say “what” in Italian). So I don’t know how much I believe their bullshit about knowing multiple languages. They know multiple languages the same way my brother in law “is fluent in Italian,” which means they know one or two phrases.

Yeah that’s a good point. Europe is tiny and full of countries compared to North America.

Although Americans don’t even seem to know the history of the countries they bomb, change the governments of, or embargo so that’s a bit concerning.

Italy is actually famous for not speaking anything other than Italian though, I think Italians admire American racism and look down on American food…

That’s odd that no Italians around you knew enough Spanish to help them..

About 80% of Italian vocabulary is relatively the same as Spanish..

10 days and he judges a country of 80million people with vastly different cultural regions being upset about germans speaking german <lmao> Let me guess you are american.

You sound like a foreigner I would avoid getting in contact with. I speak fluent english but I expect from a visitor to my country at least make an effort using the local language in my case german. Thats how I do it visiting other countries and I always get positive experiences by respecting the culture and language.
If you are too lazy to do that honestly its not for you

This. If you know Italian, you'll understand a bunch of Spanish just by osmosis and vice versa. Funny that an American would complain about Euros not speaking enough languages considering most Americans can barely speak English correctly. Whenever you talk to someone who only speaks English, they'll without fail also go on and on about how "English is the hardest language in the world" when it's really very easy. The ego trip is wild.

In general , I'd say you should try not to judge a country by its taxi drivers , airports, and hotel staff. These are things that are outside the norm of the country, and have a lot of interactions with foreigners. That SHOULD make them pros at dealing with foreigners, but they're more likely to be assholes because of their contact, imo. (unless you're paying top dollar)
It's pretty easy to meet a scamming, asshole taxi driver in practically any country.
I've been to Germany twice and had a good time there. The food sucked, but the people were fine, and I even got a chance to see a bunch of drunk Germans singing together on the subway. Felt like I was in a movie.

I was in Berlin the year after the wall went down.
Yes I am that old. Seeing eastern Germany and Berlin back then was amazing.
Had a great time, and have of course been back many time after.
What a time to have gone!
