In response to recent minimum wage hikes, Wendy’s is now replacing fast food workers with robots.

The fast food chain announced it will start automating all of its restaurants by installing self-serve kiosks in 6,000 locations by the end of the year.

Although McDonalds has already been experimenting with kiosks, Wendy’s announcement is the largest roll-out to date and will likely spark a trend leading to fully robotic restaurants.

“Wendy's President Todd Penegor said it will be up to franchisees to decide whether or not to adopt the kiosks in their stores, noting that many franchise locations have had to raise prices to offset wage increases,” Slashdot reported. “California's decision to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2022 will impact Wendy's 258 restaurants, all of which are franchise-operated.”

“About 75% of 200-plus Wendy's restaurants are run by franchisees in New York, a state that is also on its way to $15.”

It’s simple economics: when labor costs are too high to stay in business, owners will look for alternatives – including burger flipping robots.

Damn, was going to make this thread earlier but decided to go with 8 year old being strangled instead, can only deal with one WR thread.

Not sure if there is even away to avoid that.

Minimum wage should at least keep up with inflation and the cost of automation will become more affordable as the automation industry advances.

Seems inevitable that this will happen just a matter of when.

Hopefully the jobs that do remain will pay a living wage.

You try running away from one of these bad boys when you're 300 pounds.

Now if only people would aspire to build and fix robots rather than heating up frozen "meat" we'd turn all those low-skilled jobs into high-skilled, well-paying ones.

Let me guess, the robots are made in Japan?

Buy stock in companies that do automation?
Or companies exposed to gain from automation (most blue chip stocks)

Start up companies that dont have access to capital would be forced to compete against machines with their expensive low skilled labor.

International corporations will take a low interest loan out, write off costs, and gain marketshare (less competition) in the event of a higher minimum wage.

Socialism fails time and time again.

Imagine how disastrous things would be if Comrade Bern's retarded ideas were implemented nationally?

Why not let the free market decide when to deploy capital toward robots?

Why not maximize the ability for workers to agree with their employers by eliminating the minimum wage?

I trust a ribot more with my food then most fast food workers.

McDonald's started doing this last year .....in Canada , I'm sure they have been working on it for years , this has nothing to do with raising the MW

I'm not set either way as there are pros and cons. Doing it that way would probably put more pressure on the open borders lobby to flood in more cheap labor to drive costs down that way.

Not sure what would lead to better outcomes.

This is covered in labor economics. A raise in wages needs and increase in productivity or imports in order to avoid inflation or a reduced workforce.

There is also the return on capital vs return on labor ratio.

Too bad you don't trust him with your spelling

Ok mr grammar nazi, do you feel better about yourself now that you've corrected someone on the internet?
What's your opinion on the topic anyways? All you did is cut and pasted an article.
