the top 10 welterweights from 10 years ago would all give the top 10 from today a good run. do people really think gsp, kos, fitch, hughes, shields, and hendricks, diaz, etc... wouldnt at least be extremely competitive with the likes of Usman and Colby? i dont see colby beating anyone from my list if they fought in their prime.
 
I don't know what you think Fitch, Shields or Hughes would do to Colby, none of them are taking him down and he's a lot better than them on the feet.

they all would have a solid chance at taking him down. much bigger and just as credentialed. shields would easily beat colby. and by easily i mean really easily
 
They were all allowed to juice freely, but other than that the skill ceiling has gotten much higher. Most of the guys were very 1 dimensional

Huh? Now that you mention it, I think Shields would beat Colby! I can’t see Fitch or Hughes beating him though. I think Colby destroys both of them.

He beat a gassed Hendo who nearly had him out of there in the first. I'm a big fan of Jake but a guy with endless cardio like Colby who's hard to get down is a bad matchup for him.

hughes is literally twice as strong as colby, bigger and a better wrestler.

I don’t know if Hughes is a better mma wrestler. Colbys defensive wrestling is pretty solid and I think Colby would have the speed advantage. Colby wins by tko

ya based on their body of work and accomplishments, not just saying oh theyre on steroids like a total retard
 
Anyway this is how I see the fights.

GSP - Beats Usman and Colby. Tough fight with Usman but I think he's faster and more dynamic.

Koscheck - Punchers chance against Colby because he hits hard, probably loses on volume. Usman breaks his orbital with the jab again.

Fitch - No chance against either. If he can't impose his wrestling on you he's fucked. He struggled with decent wrestlers like Mike Pierce, never mind the likes of Usman and Colby.

Hughes - Too small by modern standards, Usman would dwarf him. Can't see him taking either of them down and doesn't really have anything for them on the feet. If he can somehow get them down he's a better sub grappler than either of them, but I can't see them ending up there.

Shields - See Hughes apart from the size thing.

Hendricks - Pre IV ban Hendricks has a decent chance against either of them, I don' think they can take him down and that power is always a problem.

Diaz - Gets frustratingly 50-45ed by either of them imo.

You've been an MMA fan over ten years and this is how simplistic your understanding of the sport is?

By this logic all it would ever take to win is big muscles and a strong wrestling base. Striking, footwork, and defensive wrestling would never play a factor in a fight

Hughes's wrestling worked back when the sport was still evolving into what it is now and a guy could be that 1 dimensional and still impose his will on opponents
