These are truly some dark ages in the ufc right now. We got some all world top tier boring ass fighters that are going to be holding up the divisions for awhile from any fun match ups.

1) We got Aljo who looks like he should be fighting at 170, hes going to be grappling and squeaking out decisions for a while, man is talking all this smack and fans arent even sure he won 3 out of his last 4....dude stole the belt by acting...stole a split decision from Yan, and won another split decision from cringe lord, talk about one of the most unimpressive title reigns of all time....

2) Merab...Aljos boy... man being boring must be contagious cuz these 2 spreading this shit all over, this dude couldn't finish even if Margot Robbie was giving him a lap dance nude sucking on a popsicle....

3) then we got Belal...dudes got 6 decisions out of his last 7 wins and an NC in a fight he was losing bad...How this man cant finish Gilbert Burns who is fighting with one arm for 20 minutes and is literally grimacing in pain if he even has to move that injured shoulder/arm i will never understand, go for a takedown when you know he cant defend it? Do something.. my guy is air jabbing and throwing kicks like he just does not care.

GOD DAMN, its one thing if you are like Lopes kid we saw tonight, who is just going from 1 sub to another, active, trying his heart out, but nah, these dudes just being as boring as fucking possible just so they can point fight like its some basketball game, fuck these will be some boring next couple of years with these dudes smh.

Now please post "i didnt read cuz 2long"

Boring fighters have always existed?

Say what you want about some of the guys now, but 'lay and pray' and 'wall and stall' have been all but eradicated in the sport these days.

People who find modern fighters boring need to go back and watch a Jon Fitch fight to be reminded of what boring really is.

Laying in somebody's closed guard for 15 minutes throwing pitter patter arm punches to their ribs. All fight, every fight.

At least when the last dark age the UFC was in when it was called human cawkfighting, we had exciting young fighters like Chuck Liddell, Frank Shamrock and a no known weakness Vitor

Sergei will add some excitement to the Top division. I also fully expect Jiri to get his strap back. Then an insane fight with Alex will be made.

Nah man, there’s some fun times ahead. Volk is always entertaining.

agreed, great breakdown

Merab and Belal aren’t even next in line for a title match in their respective divisions. You think this is the first time some boring fighters cracked the top 5? Lol

thats literally what these guys have been doing... they just scramble more cuz they are worse wrestlers or fight better guys with some takedown defense, but that does not make them more exciting cuz they struggling to get the fucking takedown, im not a just bleed guy, but god damn, there are guys who maul fighters once they get them down, there are guys who go for subs when they get them down if thats their field of expertise, but these dudes just want to point fight and talk a lot of shit, and the garbage scoring criteria has only encourage this type of shit, im not mad at anyone who won or lost tonight cuz i honestly did not like majority of the dudes on this card, but what i said is for sure accurate, these dudes are the definition of Jon Fitch, his half brother, how ever you want to phrase it, they not far from it.

While I don't agree with everything you said, I agree with most. Really enjoyed reading it lol you have an interesting POV.

This is surreal. I legit just was thinking this.

UFC is going through a bit of a rough patch.

Feels stuck.

Jones coming back off the sofa and just embarrassing one of the biggest HW prospects the sport has seen, alongside Ngannou departing, just makes that division meh…

You then look at Sterling.

You look at the stale women’s title pictures.

You look at Izzy, being back to bore us into submission, where he likely retires in 3 years and somehow is remembered as better than Anderson Silva lololol.

Welterweight is the most boring division in the sport without Rakhmonov.

Hill won a Interim belt after another fight was a draw and that just didn’t sit right with Bald Bozo.

Islam arguably lost to a FW, whilst being pitched as the greatest thing ever!

We were spoiled with the Charles run, the McGregor fall off, the Leon head kick, the Izzy TKO loss, the Valentina and Nunes losses, the Moreno/Figgy 4peat - all last year.

We are essentially half way through the year and I feel like Strickland has been on every other card.

Many prospects just been neutered… Dolidze, Fiziev, Simon, Imavov, Rosas, Allen, Muniz, list goes on…

Recency bias, this year alone we witnessed Jones come back and rag doll Gane, Izzy KO Pereira, Grasso upset Valentina, the epicness that was Islam vs Volk, Pavolich rise as an intriguing HW contender.

Boring events come and go, it's the flow of the sport.

Usman does a bit of L&P and Wall and Stall. It's just people forgot because of his bouts with Colby & Masvidal.

Need to change up the rules.
...Allow kicks/knees to downed opponents.
...Would also be great if the bottom positioned fighter could bring a foot across the chin of their top positioned opponent, even if a knee or two were touching the mat.(like what Anderson Silva did to Okami)

...There was a few times where Cejudo could have unleased some knees to Sterling's head, but Sterling's knees were on the mat.

I'd say he does a bit of wall and stall yeah.

I don't think he lays and prays. He just doesn't really have any offensive bjj so he gets opponents down and then runs out of ideas of what to do with them. Ends up letting them back up again.

I noticed Usman likes to hold positions for a bit, I just didn't get the hate for GSP, George actually advanced positions to try and create a finish. I agree with you though, more fighters are straying away from L&P but also more fighters just aren't very skilled when it comes to grappling so exchanges on the ground is usually one way traffic or just sloppy reversals etc.

Yeah GSP didn't lay and pray, he was just a very cautious defensively minded fighter a lot of the time. He did advance position a look for subs against a lot of guys on the ground though. Fitch, Hardy, Bisping etc.

Usman is a weird one. He has great wrestling but he hasn't really figured out how to adapt it for MMA. He gets the takedowns but he doesn't attempt any ground and pound or submissions at all. He just holds until they either find their way back to the feet or he let's them up so he can open up and throw strikes on the feet.

Hes very wrestling and boxing centric, but he struggles to combine the two or mix it up at all.

UFC has turned to shit in a lot of ways.

Yellow and red cards like in ONE for inactivity would really help. We wouldn't have had to sit through crap like Burns/Belal for 5 rounds as Burns would have been DQd in the first for not fighting.

In general, there's just a lot of fights in the UFC now where fighter's are content to get in there and not really fight.

And just the whole production/presentation in general is lackluster. Can't wait for another card of point fighting at the soul-less Apex center haha.

Dark ages indeed.
