my friend showed me this server (official one too) in world of warcraft once, where people were meeting up in some kind of tavern for some really hardcore cyber, like bondage, torture and other gross shit.
what killed me though is when some elfy looking thing came to him and asked if he wanted to hook up with one of his "girls", girls being a fucking 8ft tall minotaur, monkey looking dude and a midget with marge simpson hairdo

Ok - you are talking about AmericaOverAll; who never took a physics class in his life but used to lecture me on physics routinely. I'll admit, my academic years are behind me a bit but actually did graduate work in radiation physics and I'm still a reviewer for a scientific journal. But what the fuck would I know since AmericaOverAll and his marijuana addicted ass (or so he said) had read a book or two about physics and in his opinion everything that had any significance was done in the US.

Lol excellent example. Usually it's started over some vid of a nobody wistfully spouting essentially nothing. Just a fat dude with some gray hair giving a random speech about nothing in particular. Then they post it so they can all collectively marvel over it and tell each other how they "can't believe everyone else besides us isn't interested in science! It's like all categories of knowledge rolled up into ONE"


Crap like that. And then you know (and they know, and feel that you know) that they're just self-consciously circle-jerking and self-congratulating, which is the whole reason for posting the random insignificant clip, when there are much better, more thoughtful and greatly more interesting findings coming out every day.

They're just waiting, waiting by the door with their nerf-clubs for someone to say something different, which they take as an attempt to try to expose them, which they wouldn't all be so preset to do if they weren't self conscious about it from the getgo.

Unknowingly (I didn't know it was a subculture until I met a sufficient number of these people):

Middle class/humble beginnings, professionally educated (usually highly educated) country hoppers/adventurers with seemingly no plan except that they like to collect vast numbers of experiences. Worked and went to school in more than one country, married to someone of a different country. Predisposition for being slightly whacky and causing trouble, indifferent to calling any place home. Uncomfortable with the idea of "being comfortable".

There has to be a clinical name for these freaks (Doughbelly, I'm looking at YOU for some help here).

There might be way more of us than you know. I have encountered so many GN's in Asia - many who have lived and worked way off the ever-growing grid. Seems to be especially strong amongst certain nationalities here. Especially USA, Canada, Australia, NZ,.....

Lol, admitted gotten to. It's been going on forever, and I promise I wasn't referring to this site, (I wasn't even thinking of or referencing a single/certain experience) but yes, it happens on any discussion board that has decent traffic. Yeah it def happens here, how can it not.

I just noticed a pattern that is nearly universal and I haven't had (been involved in) this experience for at least 2-3 years of recent so I'm good, but it's just so childishly awful it brings the pain every time I accidentally think about it. My aching soul

[edit] - And sorry if I forgot to point this out, but the reason these "certain people" do this is to get attention (from each other, or anyone at all), because they wont be getting special attention from any real life professor, and because no one in life would actually mistake obvious hacks for special, also because they are not actually doing or learning actual science, which requires analytical skills on top of hours of difficult work.

Met a Furry once at a KMFDM concert. A KMFDM concert full of rivetheads and there was a fucking Furry there. He was like a fish out of water. Needless to say I could understand while he was left alone. I tried to dodge the fucker all night but he was flirting with my chick buddy lol..

He even showed us pictures he took dressed up as a pink bunny rabbit on his cell phone cause we didn't believe him. They are fuckin' wierd.
