The Puritan influence on America is why we have a lot of bizarre legal conflicts like this. Any kind of nudity or coarse language used to be taboo on t.v., and still mostly is, but bloody violence is fine. American culture was a mono-culture, until recently, but now it is devolving into utter chaos. Even still, the narratives coming from the mass media are still pretty unified, as they are mostly whores, and will say whatever they think they are supposed to say. There are still "blue laws," I think they are called, that limit alcohol purchases. This is from the influence of Puritanism/Calvinism on America. Calvinism is awful shit, and it is the poison behind much of America's bipolar nature. Google "city on a hill," or read Johnathan Edwards' screed.

It seems most Americans think the age of consent is 18. But, it varies greatly by state.

Sometimes there are "Romeo & Juliet" laws where age range matters. But, a lot of the times there isn't.
