Weili has shown that she can dominate the fight in the realms of kicking and wrestling / grappling.

In her last few fights though, particularly in Rose 2 and Lemos, she's showed quite a bit of vulnerability in the boxing realm.

She doesn't have a varied / dynamic boxing offense (not good at entering and landing combinations) and her jab is under utilised (although I recognise she's not a rangey fighter).

Her defense isn't amazing either, she's been quite vulnerable to getting tagged with punches her whole career.

If she can fill this gap, she'll become the most complete fighter the division has ever seen.

Her team haven't seemed to pick up on this though, so I don't anticipate her working on it as much as she should.

Just my take.

… say no to drugs sir… weili out landed her what 300 to 20 strikes? Lol and this girl was suppose to be dangerous and a power striker .. Weili will be dominating for a while

90% of those strikes were on the ground so your argument is redundant.

Weili is one of my favourite fighters, hope she does dominate for a while, but her boxing is a weakness that she could work on.

Despite the fact that she dropped Lemos with a punch, Lemos probably landed more effective punches in the stand up and landed some really good shots.

I agree somewhat, although Lemos is probably the most dangerous striker in the division. If Andrade didn't catch that choke early she probably would have been rocked too.

So there's no shame in Zhang looking a little outmatched on the feet.

Unless Rose comes back to SW, she's probably not going to have to face anyone who is a good enough striker to exploit her striking for a while.

Weili has made massive improvements in her grappling. At this point, I think that she doesn't need to strike with Rose at all.

IMO she needs to seek out the assistance of Teddy Atlas, coordinating with him to see if they can work together.

Then train under Iron Mike, Teddy will find out via social media.. seems to be a legit way to tighten up the hands.

You're post sucks and you don't know what the word redundant means. They were on the feet for probably at least 7 minutes of the fight (just guessing don't go crazy with the fact checks), and she barely landed anything. So the post you quoted was correct, you're wrong, and you're likely lying about being a Weili fan. You sound like posters that say "I like Jon Jones"... then shit on him for two paragraphs. I will at least admit I hate Jones before I shit on him for two paragraphs

She can always work on her boxing of course, but her approach is so dynamic that boxing (specific) is a passive skill requirements in her arsenal.

She has one of the shortest reaches in her division and utilises her martial skillset almost perfectly.

Her reach is negated by perfect long range side kicks and range closing.

Weili is one of my top 3 fav fighters, my post history reflects that.

I just want her to be the best she can be, it's just my take.

But she was our boxed by Rose in the second fight, and showed her biggest vulnerabilities at boxing range in this fight, outside of that, against Lemos she fully dominated.

True

But there also isn't anyone in the division who's gonna capitalize on it either.

I suppose fighters can always stand to improve things, but I don't think Weili has the body type to ever be wildly successful at any variation of pure boxing or even boxing heavy MMA.

She is very strong and athletic and has found a lot of success playing to her strengths.

Curious to see how she handles Tatiani Suarez. Can she stop Suarez from manhandling her?
How does she achieve that?
Does she stay at kicking range, stick and move? Sprawl and brawl?
Can she keep it in the clinch?

That's a tough puzzle. I am a Saurez fan, so maybe I am biased, but I think that is going to be a VERY high level WMMA matchup.

For sure, as I said, she's not very rangey, but in my fairly uneducated opinion, I think she could work on some better entries / inside boxing and combinations.

Especially as Wei such an athlete, she could be very explosive / potent at that range.

I do love her elbows at close range though, they're awesome.

How do you think a potential fight between Weili and Suarez plays out?

That is imo the only opponent at 115 where Weili will be unlikely to be able to outmuscle and overpower.

Likewise, Weili would be the most dangerous opponent Tatiani has faced.

I think Suarez is a dangerous match up for Weili for a few reasons.

Weili's grappling success has come from sound wrestling tactics and strong ground positioning. She must drill like crazy, because her technique is so, quick, crisp and clean.

But a lot of this success also comes from her being the best athlete in the division. She has left herself vulnerable to subs, which she has been able to power out of against physically weaker foes. But Suarez is long, technical and strong, I could imagine her catching Weili. The wrestling scrambles would be very explosive in that fight

Standing, again Weili is a better kicker imo, but Juarez had good kicks too and is longer. Weili is a better athlete, but she's shorter and Juarez is long, strong and rangey, Juarez is a decent athlete for wmma standards too.

As a Weili fan I'd be nervous about that fight.

Not to beat a dead horse, but improving her entries and inside boxing game against someone like Juarez would be important, as it's going to be hard for her to strike at range with bigger / longer fighters.

I dont think her boxing is bad at all. Watch her 2 fights with JJ, they stood for most the time in both fights and weili blasted JJ a ton of times with big combos. Lemos just has good hands and better boxing so weili really didnt want to box with her, she threw some hands to keep lemos honest but relied on her sidekicks and push kicks to score, i knew she was going to ragdoll lemos.
