I think Middleweight has the most egregious cuts from fighters look at guys like Battle and Gastellum unable to make weight. Guys like Pereira and Dricus cutting insane amounts, also Khamzat.

A lot of middleweight walk around in HW territory and yet are still to small to compete at LHW bc there are big HWs cutting down to 205

Anyways is there another weight class with more misses and more ridiculous cuts?

Add a weight class.

155, 165, 175, 190, 205.

165 = super lightweight
175 = welterweight
190 = middleweight

Then we can have more title fights and superfights at the 145-175 range.

It exists. It's 195. It's called Super Middleweight. The UFC just hasn't adopted it.

In an ideal world anyone who walks around over 200 lbs at a decentish bodyfat% would just fight at HW. That would actually bring prestige and talented fighters back to the division.

LOL what?

You can't compare DDP and Pereira size with Fatselum and Battle.

The first 2 are professionals.

And I say it all the time, but why cut??? heavyweight fighters suck lol. if you weigh 220 lbs and cut 185. or weight 230 and cut to 205. you are a fucking dipshit

In 2024, it was FLW (8) and FW (7) with most misses. Manlets are clearly the worst offenders.

By quantity, sure. It's smaller, harder cuts.

By quality, it's gotta be 185, or 205.

Look at this

The cuts are just getting so big now. You have 185ers waking around at similar weights to what Stipe Miocic fought at.

When you look at a Paulo Costa, it's obvious this dude is a HW. He's well over 200 lbs and heavily muscled.

Cutting is like a social contagion in MMA where they cut solely because others do it, regardless if it actually improves their in cage performance.

So your examples of MWs cutting the most weight are Kelvin, Battle, and Khamzat--all of whom have fought at 170? Sounds legit.

It would make sense if it was MW. Between MW and the next class up guys have the option to fight in has the largest gap in weight of any division. So it really amplifies the extreme at times of either trying to cut down, or face being the smaller guy a weight class up against glorified HW's.

BW/FW/LW might be the worst, as they cut big amounts percentage wise, Pereira cuts at MW were special tho, lol, at least when compared to his weight a few days after.

Mw is a weird division it doesnt exist in boxing. There is a reason its 175 then 200 the talent thins out real quick
185 really is a weird spot.
Izzy is really the picturesque MW, and it showed when he went up to face Jan and couldn't even make 205, coming in at 201.5.
It's for an incredibly specific frame, but since that frame isn't widespread, we mostly get fat welterweights and cutting LHWs.

Honestly I don’t think Khamzat cuts all that much weight to make MW. Certainly not as much as Pereira was.
He was making 170, he is not an incredibly large MW, he is just quite tall. Probably still cuts more than Izzy for example does.

Yeah I think Khamzat could still make WW if he really wanted to, wouldn’t be an easy cut but I think he could do it. I think the UFC basically forced him up because they knew they would be building cards around him and they can’t risk him missing weight like he did. Just my opinion though.

KG is an exception and an embarrassment

I've been saying it for years
Worst part is the guy really did have a great amount of potential at some point, but zero discipline.
This is his 5th weight miss.

While the theory around the UFC shoving him up makes sense knowing he'll be a star, I think it makes more sense that they realized the guy missing 9lbs for a main event means he can't fight at the weightclass.
a 7.5lb weight miss is egregious, narrowly missing the top 5 of worst weight misses of all time.
I don't believe he can make 170 anymore. Maybe during Ramadan? <lol>

It did though, it was called Cruiserweight. The limit for it was 190lbs. Holyfield was CW champ who moved up to become a smallish HW champ, usually weighing in around 208-213lbs

Boxing has a lot more weight divisions to accommodate athletes of varying sizes. Which is why they don't have nearly as many weight misses. MW in boxing is 160lbs compared to the 185lbs in the UFC
