Do you think that the current names of the weight classes confuses fans coming over from boxing or in the case of casual fans of combat sports the names can sometimes ruin a champion/division's first impression (i.e. Lightweight would have a negative/inferior connotation to the general public)?

If the above is true, do you rename the divisions to boxing's corresponding weight class (i.e. MMA-Light Heavyweight -> Cruiserweight) or would the simpler solution be to name the division based on the weight limit (Light Heavyweight Champion -> 205 lb-Champion)?

Speaking as someone who watched boxing before MMA, mixing up weight classes was a common occurrence for my friends and I.

Their weigh in weight is shown and that should clear all confusion.
If not maybe it's an issue but not really one of much consequence.

Should rename them to: Big dudes, normal dudes, slightly bigger dudes, smaller dudes, etc. imo

Edit: You have to admit, Light Heavyweight just sounds a bit silly.

I don’t think it would matter what you called them

I would rename the HW division the Clydesdale division

A lot of guys who think of themselves as being average size are really just fat lightweights.

You're right. I think the minnie people classes would get more respect if they were renamed. The UFC should consider renaming the weight classes to this:

Flyweight - Light Middleweight
Bantamweight - Middleweight
Featherweight - Super Middleweight
Lightweight - Cruiserweight
Welterweight - Light heavyweight
Middleweight - Heavyweight
Light Heavyweight - Super Heavyweight
Heavyweight - Rumbleweight

Think about it... Dillashaw would be the middleweight champion.

Can we rename the lower weights to Super Manlet, Manlet and Junior Manlet?

Boxing can't even figure its own weight classes with Pro and Amateurs being different and always changing

UFC has already established a standard years ago

>265 - Ostrich
205-264 - Penguins
185-204 - Owls
170-184 - Pigeons
155-169 - Ptarmigans
<155 - Chickadees

I think most casual fans have no clue what the weight of divisions are or who fights in those divisions. It's always something like Nate Diaz was a great hw before he decided to go to middle weight

Definitely it should be changed. When you talk about lightweight to a casual they think really little guys.

The womens divisions especially are ridiculous. Cyborg should not be categorized as a featherweight. She is a monster (in a good way)

Flyweight - Lightweight
Bantamweight - Welterweight
Featherweight - Super Welterweight
Lightweight - Middleweight
Welterweight - Super Middleweight
Middleweight - Cruiserweight
Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight stay the same

Perfection :D

I look at it like 4 = IV in roman numerals. As in it's one integer lower than 5. Lhw is one weightclass lower than hw. Does sound a little funny tho
