Weight bullies

No hate, just very good weight cutting techniques.

Are they good weight-cutting techniques if you miss weight?

If you step into the cage looking a full 1-2 weight classes bigger than your opponent AND size is a factor in the fight, you might be a "weight bully". Personally I think "height bullies" are more of a problem! I really felt for shorter guys trying to get in on Jon Jones' height and reach at 205.

Sherdogs infatuation of someone being a weight bully is retarded. It doesn't exist. You either make weight or you don't.
You either regain 20lbs more than your opponent or you don't.
I kind of disagree. I've seen times where "they both made weight" does not equate to a level playing field come fight time. I'm not crying foul or fighter hating, but it's reasonable to point out the disparity if it exists. Every factor counts in a fight, and if it's problematic, I would blame the rules not the fighter.

Alex doesnt belong because he's never missed weight. I'll allow Holloway but ONLY because of the Khabib fight weight cut situation. but that's a little dubious he didn't have a ton of time to make that weight but he missed weight a weight class above.

You're not a weight bully if you've always made weight. Especially if you're making championship weight when you don't have to instead of taking the 1lb allowance for non-title fights.

The weight bullies are the ones who (repeatedly) miss weight and refuse to move up. Especially if they've already fought at that higher weight class and are refusing to go back despite their issues making the lower class.

THAT'S a weight bully as they know they can't reliably make the lower weight class and know they can't reliably win in the higher weight class. So they risk the scale instead of the record.

Love that everyone thinks Khabib is a weight bully lol. He's missed weight only once whereas Charles Oliveira has missed weight 5 times.

Missing weight and being a weight bully are separate things

A weight bully by definition is someone who has mastered the art of cutting a ton of water weight and fighting smaller guys. They don't tend to miss weight that much. You can still be a weight bully and not miss weight

I disagree. All this means is that you've mastered cutting water weight. You're still far bigger than the average fighter in your division. It doesn't matter if you've never missed weight.

Rumble Johnson
Jose Aldo
Conor McGregor
James Irvin
Renan Barao
Joanna Jedrzejczyk
TJ Dillashaw
John Lineker
Johny Hendricks
Anthony Pettis

10 fighters that all looked a hell of a lot more worse on the scale than Khabib ever did.

Maybe on the scale, but I don’t think any of them had this happening to them:

And also let’s not forget this dubious weight in:

People try and excuse this, but like cutting ~20lbs, AKA 175lb FW, on a weeks notice isn't difficult. Ronda cut 17lbs in 24hrs out of nowhere on TUF to make BW and prove a point to the fighters after Gutierrez missed weight by 4lbs.

I mean, Eddie was the original backup and he turned it down as he was 190 when they phoned him. THAT is much more understandable not being able to make 155 on a week's notice, especially for a 5 round title fight against Khabib of all people. That's 35lbs and even if he did manage it he'd be in no real shape to go 25 minutes with Khabib.

For Max to have missed he had to be well over what people tend to think he weighs.

Interesting. How peculiar.

This is as stupid as saying you're a "gym bully" because you've mastered being stronger than other people and you shouldn't be allowed to be stronger than your opponent.

If you can successfully do something you're not a bully. You're a master.

But by all means sure, let's change the term to something like weight class abuser to instead specifically mean people who stick to weight classes they can't actually consistently make, yet stick around because they're not being forced up.

No, they'd usually just lose before the end of the 1st round most times.

No. The fighters on that list didn’t usually lose before the end of the 1st round most times. They actually usually won fights as is demonstrated by their records.

The idea of weight bullies is in large part a Sherdog construct based on unfounded assumptions. The exception would be when it is wildly obvious, such as the way Alex towers over Izzy with a similar frame shape (in other words he isn't taller but skinnier, just taller). Even in that instance, it is something for the UFC to fix given it is within the rules.

Worse term weight bullies or rank squatters?
