Weidman never proved he's better than Silva.

I just wish that Silva and Weidman had been able to fight each other at least once (twice would have been better of course!) and then we would have some way to answer this question.

weird that it never happened.

He didn't prove it but Anderson did when he lost a boxing match to Jake paul.

Also nobody prefight was saying Silva was past his prime. He looked the exact same as he always did. Lackluster TDD, dancing around like a moron, throwing naked leg kicks, etc. All three finally bit him in the ass in the Weidman fights.

Am I only one have trouble with "loading" all of emojis, I was going to use the "well there it is" Jurassic park gif, but like 90% of gifs aren't loading for me.

Silva has the greater legacy based on body of work and you can definitely make the argument that Anderson was past his prime when he faced Weidman and that he would've beat him had he been in his prime but that's an unprovable hypothetical argument. The reality is that Weidman beat the fuck out of Anderson Silva twice. That's what we know for sure.

Silva was 38yo in the first fight and had been fighting since he was teenager. That's about as provably post-prime as one can get.

Dude was 38yo, it goes WITHOUT SAYING.

Revisionist history. He was still a huge favorite and nobody was talking about how far past it he was when he beat Stephan Bonnar in his previous fight. You should have bet on Weidman then if that’s how you felt. You could’ve made a fortune like I did.

You didn't understand my post. I conceded that arguing Anderson was past his prime is conceivable. My point was that it's an unprovable hypothetical argument that a prime Anderson would've beaten Weidman.

Weidman beat Silva twice, neither of which withstand scrutiny, and Silva's prime ended precisely with the second defeat. Weidman earned the belt and ended Silva's reign. He did that.

Digging deeper, complacency played a big role in ending Anderson Silva's championship run. He had a few ridiculous mismatches, got bored, and had a Roy Jones Jr. moment. The second fight, he threw a routine leg kick, and suffered a freak accident he would never really recover from.

Regardless of how either fight ended, Weidman was winning them up until the respective finishes.

In the first fight, Anderson started taunting way more after he had already lost the first round. He got caught in the process. This wasn't a fluke. Anderson taunted and crowned around during fights all the time prior to this. Just because it didn't work this time doesn't mean it was a fluke win.

Weidman dominated the rematch too. He dropped Anderson from the clinch in the first round. Yes, the finish was a freak injury, but Anderson was losing badly until that point, and Chris caused the injury by perfectly checking a kick.

Chris was the better fighter on both occasions.

Of course I wouldn't expect a casual to know about the Silva interview before the fight where he said "Chris is the new champion" as his desired outcome, and when the interviewer reacted with surprise, he said "Yeah man... I tired".
I've been watching since 2007 so.... yeah.

Silva fought like he always did. Showboating, because his striking was better than the competition at the time. Hell Dana got pissed at Silva for one of his fights since he didn't end it and could have. Weidman was the better fighter and finished off Silva twice with technique.

He was never better than Silva.

Anyone who thinks he’s better than Anderson, is a fool lol.

Weidman was better than Silva was in 2013. Who the hell is arguing he's better overall? Odd thread, considering Silva is middleweight GOAT and it isn't close.

To be honest, would have rather seen Silva vs Rockhold than vs Weidman. That fight could have been epic, especially if Luke still beat Weidman, and went on to face Bisping on a fresh win streak.

It was SIlva's. He denied Weidman a clear win by goofing off like a clown. I'm glad he lost that first fight - I just wish we could have seen a focused Silva.

We did in the rematch. He was concussed and dropped hard within 1 minute.

Silva was past his prime in their first fight.
Silva lost the first fight due to showboating and not taking the fight seriously.
Silva lost the second fight due to a freak leg kick.

These three factors make Weidman's wins against Silva dubious at best.
I still contend that a focused, prime Silva circa 2010 destroys Weidman.
