I want to see the fight. It would be for the ages. But the UFC will just string them both along as long as they can to keep the out of other organizations, as long as they can.
He wants Shogun to retire as long he can keep him under exclusive contract rights and own his soul forever. Anderson, he has matching rights over. Anderson had 1 fight left. If Dana actually gave him that fight, he'd be out of the UFC's exclusive contract quicker because now he's "cut" but the UFC has exclusive rights to match any contract of any org he could sign with. They only "cut" him because that keeps out of him competing orgs longer than not cutting him. Shogun has 2 fights left. If he refuses to retire, Dana will give him 1 more fight then "cut" him and put him in Anderson's situation because that's longest amount of time he can keep him out of other orgs. See my edit ^ ^ ^Didn't Dana say he was done giving Anderson fights and wants Shogun to retire?
They would have to offer him fights thenI want to see the fight. It would be for the ages. But the UFC will just string them both along as long as they can to keep the out of other organizations, as long as they can. That means not offering them fights.
Anderson's "cut" with 1 fight left but the UFC has matching rights.
Shogun has 2 fights left. The UFC will give him 1 more fight then put him in Anderson's situation.
Anderson can't fight in that case for another year. Shogun will be able to fight once over the next 2 years. Neither will be able to fight each other.
Or they could just "outbid" other orgs and just push along bullshit along for 12 months to keep him on ice. No orgs gonna sign Anderson until the 12 months is over, because then they can get him for less. The UFC knows that. They're just keeping him on ice for as long as they can. That's where they'll put Shogun if he fights another fight left on his 2 fight remaining contract; no matter what, they're not just going to set him free. They would have to offer him fights then
How can you cut someone and then have exclusive right to them? If they "outbid" the other organizations wouldn't they have to honor a fight at that price then as well?Or they could just "outbid" other orgs and just push along bullshit along for 12 months to keep him on ice. Edit:
Here's 2 things they're not gonna do:
1) Actually cut him for real and let him be a real free agent without the UFC having exclusive matching rights. instead they'll stretch out pushing bidding and contracting bullshit for a long time, and push up the price so much that no other org will realistically sign him
2) Actually let Shogun or Anderson fight out their contracts and get freedom; Anderson has 1 fight left -- they won't give it to him. Shogun has 2; they'll let him fight 1 more and then won't let him fight his last one, then put him in Anderson's situation.
The matching period only lasts 12 months. I imagine they'll just pull bullshit like "here's the papers" then a month later "omg what happened to the papers" then a month later "go talk to the other org again" then 12 months later.. actually we don't want to sign you. Bye!How can you cut someone and then have exclusive right to them? If they "outbid" the other organizations wouldn't they have to honor a fight at that price then as well?
