colby is a product of the modern era, not the online hardcore vocal minority. if he came around in 2007, he'd fit right in with the pro-bacon, pro manliness, pro whiskey, pro MURICA crowd. because he's doing this in 2023, he's a bigot, brings shame to the country, an enemy, etc. he's a product of the warped perceptions of the modern day, dopamine receptor ruined, average, MMA, ESPN watching fan and all of that apparatus that it brings.

For me Colby Covington's entire career is one of the more disturbing sagas since I have been a fan. It's part of the reason I've stopped watching and caring about the sport so much in recent years. The fact that two world class athletes had to resort to slandering each other in the media and sucker punching in parking lots to keep their jobs really doesn't make me excited for the future. What's your take? Did the McGregor era take the UFC to the next level or ruin the product?

It elevated it but ruined it at the same time.

The worst thing for your earning ability in the fight game is nobody cares about you. Better to be hated or loved. I don't blame Colby, nobody was tuning in for his style of fighting on its own. He's just taking the template set by people much much better at it (Chael, Tito, Mayweather, Conor, etc).

Let's be honest, Colby only got attention because he made being a Trumper part of his act. He doesn't have half the charisma of someone like Chael. If he had tried his cringe shtick without MAGA attached to it the MMA media would have ignored him and treated him as a joke.
