I've traveled outside the US, though admittedly not to Muslim theocratic countries. Does interacting with Muslims that have moved to the US count? Or do their views of the countries and situations they came from cease to matter once they have relocated?

And no I’m not taking away anything from the people that you know. No-one is claiming that bad things don’t happen in these places. You get good people here and you get bad people - its the human experience. My point was that to truly judge a people on a wholistic level, you need to live amongst them and not base it on individual cases. My brother currently lives in one Gulf country and my extended family in another. I have family in other parts of the Muslim world too. When I travel to visit any one of them, Id love for people like yourself to come over and visit. We see non-muslim holidaymakers and migrants all the time in the Gulf countries particularly and their experience is rarely negative from what ive seen.
