Wasn't Anderson Silva considered the best striker in MMA?

Anderson Silva is 47 years old and has been fighting for 25 years. There isnt much to say other than that really. Time is undefeated.
There is a ton to say, actually. For instance, I could say that Anderson went toe to toe with Adesanya just a couple of years ago and beat Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. in boxing, what - like a year ago? In addition, I could point out that many in the MMA community, including Dana White, claimed that Jake Paul would never take a match with Anderson because there was no way that he could beat him. I could also tell you that Jake Paul has only been training for a couple of years, doesn't have much of an athletic background, and started training when he was over 20 years old. Would you like to hear more?

Imagine him as UFC champion the amount of butt-hurt would be amazing.... and I'll be just reading the comments going.

The crazy part is that the level of talent in the UFC and MMA in general is such garbage that him becoming the champion is not far fetched at all.

This one really did surprise me. Silva was the 1st guy that Paul fought where he had some boxing experience, was a striker and not a wrestler, and he didn't have a huge size advantage. So, I really thought Silva would win easily. I don't have any explanation for why he lost other than his age and maybe Paul is just a little better than we have given him credit for.
He is. I've literally been repeating this since the start.

Quite unlikely but not necessarily far-fetched. Right now middleweight is a pretty weak division with a pure kickboxer as UFC champion. Pereira became champ without any real grappling after just 4 fights in the organization and only 8 MMA fights total. Lesnar did it in just 3 UFC fights and only 4 MMA fights total. Both did this as one-dimensional fighters though they were highly decorated in their base discipline—Pereira a world class former multi-division Glory kickboxing champ & Lesnar a former NCAA Division I wrestling champ. They had credentials that Jake simply doesn't.

That said, Jake did wrestle scholastically and his wrestling is solid. I've seen some of his high school matches. So, he already has several years of experience in boxing and wrestling. A great MMA coach like Javier Mendez could work with that. Jake previously mentioned going over to AKA and training there. With his work ethic, discipline, and resources he could develop into a top MMA fighter rather quickly. Of course this is all assuming that Dana is even willing to sign him and doesn't look to personally sabotage his career as far as early developmental matchmaking is concerned.

Actually I would like to understand whats the point that you are trying to make here. Do you think Jake Paul is a prodigy? Or that Anderson Silva, Adesanya and Chavez Jr. are garbage? Dana White is dumb? Im confused.

I mean, I get it...Jake Paul is this annoying, douchey, pretend to ba gangster but really a rich white kid who I'd love to see shut up...

And I also understand the fact that Anderson Silva is pushing into his late 40s. Having that said, Jake Paul defeated him. How does this happen? Anderson Silva was thought of as the best striker in mixed martial arts, and has absolutely toyed with several top ranked fighters.

Not only that, he defeated a highly respected professional BOXER in BOXING what, a year ago? Yet I'm still seeing these "when is Jake Paul gonna fight a real fighter" or "when is Jake Paul gonna fight a good striker/boxer". Again, I get it, I'm upset as well and honestly can't make sense of why a YouTuber is absolutely destroying professional fighters who have been in there with straight savages. Like I get being out of your prime, I get it...but, should guys like Tyron Woodley, who has slept killers like robbie Lawler, get flat lined by a rich kid who became famous because hes addicted to social media attention? To me, it really makes this sport look bad. Like bad bad.
<{hughesimpress}>

Chavez Jr is not and has never been "highly respected." He's a waste of space.

Yes because MMA fighters like Woodley are cocky delusion people who think they can do things when it turns out they can't. He volunteered to compete in something he isn't qualified to do. GSP said Jake was a serious threat in boxing to a MMA fighters a long time ago because GSP isn't a delusion idiot that thinks being a MMA fighter somehow gives them magical abilities that transfer to all walks of life.

gsp sparred with lucian bute back when bute was the next big thing, and gsp said “i feel like every time i spar with bute, it is the easiest day of bute’s life”

gsp knows mma doesn’t translate to boxing (at all)

Anderson beat a former boxing world champion who was younger than him before losing to Jake Paul.
He beat a guy who was downing Modelos and doing lines in the back. Let alone it was an awful fight that neither did shit in, that shouldve been a draw.
But thats the same Silva who got TKOd in a boxing match against a nobody in Brazil years ago.
So dont forget that in your history lesson.

Krazy Horse > Noons > Diaz > Sakurai > Aoki > Sakuraba > Belfort > Hendo > Fedor > Nog > Couture > Toney > Holyfield > Tyson > Berbick > Ali
According to BoxRec Holyfield's last sanctioned pro fight was in 2011. The 60 year old retired version of Holyfield in that farce of a fight with Belfort was an exhibition match. It doesn't count on their official records.

Ali already lost the lineal before that. Meaningless.
