My new Gi just came in the mail and i was hoping u guys can help me answer some questions.

1. It says to wash it in 30 degrees Celsius (which is 86 F), should i wash it on that setting (warm) or wash it in cold water?

2. I plan on soaking it in vinegar 20 minutes before i wash it. Does it matter if i roll in it first before i start the process?

thx grappling community!

fujis shrink a lot man, ive had two and after about 6 months i had to give em away to smaller guys , i wouldnt ever roll in a gi that hasnt been washed but thats just me and my germaphobe-ness, u never know what they do to it when they package it up

I've used a Fuji before and they do shrink, but not as fast as some other Gi's I've used. Most of the shrinking happens in the drier anyway.

I would wash it hot first time then stick it into the dryer on hot taking it out every 5 minutes to check to see how you like sizing. Once you have your size from now on your wash cold and air dry.

I'm 6'3 210 and I have an A-4. Do you think A-4 would be a problem if it shrinks without ever putting it in the dryer?

Depends how it fits you, I can't picture it by you just giving me your size and the gi size. If it fits you pretty damn good now I would just wash it cold.

When I ordered my Fuji I was advised to order a size up. I'm 5'9 170lbs, an A2 basically, I ordered an A3 Fuji and after a wash and machine dry it fit me perfectly.

I'm 5'9", and an A2 Fuji fits me fine...An A3 would be ridiculously baggy. And mine barely shrank, even though I dyed it in extremely hot dye vat.

Fujis are notorious for shrinking! I will never buy one again.

If you have one, never wash it in hot water. Never, ever pit it in the dryer.

Even if you take these precautions it will still shrink.

don't roll in it before you wash it and soak it with vinegar. The vinegar stops the color from fading, and if you roll in it you will literally be rolling away its color.

vinegar doesn't do crap except take away any stanky odors after its been worn a bit. it only helps with the fading if the material is dyed through a particular process. on fuji's it does nothing.

Actually it does nothing at all (for dyes) acid solutions are needed to set acid dyes, which are used in protein based fibers (wool, silk) but once set it does nothing after.

A first wash however its pretty important to take away unbound dye.

This was my first gi and I still wear it. You need to learn the art of shrinking to fit by putting it in the dryer 5 minutes at a time. Once you like the fit, only wash in cold and hang dry or it will continue to shrink.
