Sure looks like it.

Yoel Romero will probably KO him in the third in a rematch.

Yoel Romero winning a UFC title wouldn't even be his most successful accomplishment in his life. This man beat Cael Sanderson twice in wrestling, who is considered the best wrestler of all time.

A clear unanimous decision with a 5th round domination is now a "fluke". lol.

Damn right it was a fluke, Whittaker's fucked up knee was an issue. Bobby Knuckles will beat him worse in the rematch.

Whitaker had a knee injury and still managed to beat Yoel pretty handily.

He's the best active MW by a significant margin.

2 highly trained athletes competing against each other......yeah, total fluke that one of them won.

<YeahOKJen>

Flukes don't last for 25 minutes.

Whitaker had the speed, reflexes and intelligence to avoid Romero's best shots over five rounds.

What exactly are you basing this “fluke” off of? Because Yoel Romero had a nice KO over Luke Rockhold that makes Whittaker’s victory a fluke?

Man MMA fans are so damn fickle.

Whittaker was moving fine with his injured leg, like he always did prior to Yoel fight.

Yoel takes Whittaker's leg off this time.

That would be like saying Stipe's win over Ngannou was a fluke because he luckily avoided getting his face smashed in with an uppercut for 5 rounds. There's potential for danger in every single fight, even the FLWs. Avoiding that is rarely a fluke.

Pretty sure it changed the way he fought. He was switching stances and from memory he wasn't throwing it as much. Also looked like it didn't want to take his weight.

Romero had a bad game plan against Whittaker. He won the first two rounds on all of the judges' scorecards. But he gassed and lost the final 3 rounds to give Whittaker a 48-47 decision. It was not the dominating victory by Whittaker that some revisionists have diluted themselves into thinking it was.

Romero came in with a much better game plan against Rockhold. If he paces himself like that against Whittaker, he should come out victorious. He has already proven that Whittaker is not going to KO him. Better pacing would allow him to win more than 2 rounds, and also give him more chances to KO Whittaker like Wonderboy did.

Expect Whittaker to be the favorite in the rematch, but Romero to be the smarter bet.

No.

Not only did he beat him by a convincing decision, but he beat him using the same method that he used to beat Jacare - only this time he had his leg injured early.

Whittaker wants you to shoot on takedowns, so that you waste energy trying to complete them vs his great takedown defence, jabbing and kicking Romero's body to pressure him and take away his explosiveness.

it wasn't a fluke, Luke Rockhold simply didn't approach Romero in that same way.

That's not really true, Romero usually explodes in the third and final round but he couldn't because Whittaker kicked his cardio away. There was no third round explosion and by the championship rounds he couldn't mount much offence even though he wanted to.

how could it be a fluke? Whittaker injured his leg in round 1 and still clearly won the fight, so if anything he might do better in a rematch if he's not injured.

Because Yoel was targeting that leg with his oblique kick. I get really angry when I see people ask "why didn't Yoel kick him?", he did and tried many times, Whittaker was trying to avoid by switching stances and getting out of the way because of it.

Yeah, pretty much.

It was fluke that Joel broke Rob's knee. Bobby would have finished him if that didn't happen.
