Was watching PREDATOR the other day..

He had some redemption in the end.
It was really great acting on Carl Weathers' part how Dillon seems uncomfortable and wide eyed the entire movie from being out from behind a desk for the first time in presumably years. Then when he shifts and is laying out to Mac how they're going to kill the predator he's in an instant a cold blooded spec ops soldier again.

Im gonna watch it tonight thanks to this thread. Usually i just have a wank when Dutch beats dillon in the arm wrestle, but tonight im focusing on the story.
Arnie when serious actor. His best years. Late 80 mid 90

Yeah he was a snake at first. But came back when attacked predator. Savage
Lost his arm though and life badly

basically red's son, foreman, was a complete wash as venom and as a serial killer. I mean, who the fuck thought itd be a good idea to shift the center of the movie around this guy for a minute. I dont know about you, but when I think of 'scaree cereal killurr' I dont think of sitcom actors. not even that dorky kid from the wonder years who people once thought became marilyn manson. not even balki, not even screech, and no ... not even urkel.

also, why the fuck would they go for that hippy shit angle of having a serial killer there anyways. they wanted to hammer home the point of 'the real predators are humans' when you know, thats NOT. THE FUCKING. POINT OF THE MOVIE AT ALL. well it sorta is, but you dont make it obvious. that ruins most sci fi concepts. you want to tell a story? then its about humans being the prey. thats it.

super bad, futuristic tribal hunters that cant be reasoned with or figured out, are mounting human trophies and yelling in a weird cat language. humans are lost and running around with body parts flying, invisible warriors are hopping around, and exploding laser blasts are shooting out of the jungle. I cant get why everyone has to try and be so smart with their movie scripts and then try to bludgeon you over the head with its a message in an action/horror flick. I dont need blatant life lessons here, mate. besides, the basic theme was already built into the premise, so they didnt need to make us stop and think 'huh, maybe we humans are da problem' while some yutz in a prison outfit is trying to kill people in a life or death situation while him, and everyone else is fighting against a bigger problem.

Generally a script getting overly complex and trying to throw too obvious messages at you is a sign its lacking in quality. Again for me this film felt like it was a less ambitious genre production playing around existing Predator fans and a load of other geekish clichés, not cinema with the ambition of the original.

I thought hiw actings a little wooden in the beginning of the movie compared to other actors He def improved later on...but hes intense, and his physicality and charisma are second to none.

his one liners

I just watched 1 and 2 last night.

Fucking bawsssss.

In part 2 I hadnt noticed that he hung jerry up in the train, only to take him back down and rip his spine out after NOT killing the pregnant cop. This leads me to believe that the predator is pissed that he couldnt kill both to make harrigan insane w rage,so instead he rips jerrys spine out right in front of him.

What a ruthless fucker

the predator who fought alien was interesting. They was on human side. Maybe because of arnie?

Nahh they only got that idea from the avp comics from early 90s. The very first 4 part series. Very good, track it down or dl it.

Oh.
the predator in final scene was badass . Only way they could win was by bomb. One on one alien wins

Batman vs predator comic (first 3 part series) might be the best storyline predator ever was involved in aside from the 2 movies. It sounds like it would be opposite, but its the shit. Predator is 400 percent villain. Thats what they need to do w character.

Predator was good because it was a straight-up action flick, with a simple easy to understand a concept. It didn't have to have a subtext or subtle social commentary. No talk about the alien or characters being pan-sexual, or other needless garbage. All mercs were likable and had their own unique personalities. When each one is taken out by Predator, it sucks since you cared about the characters. Movies now have to have one or two guys with some extreme personality, particularly racism or whatever, and when they are killed, you're meant to be happy about it.

If the o.g. predator was released today, critics would tear it apart for toxic masculinity, and how even with a mixed cast of whites, blacks, native Americans, there wasn't any Trannie representation.

The only way out of here,is through the valley to the east, but I wouldnt wish that on a broke dick dog.

I kinda like that though. He starts the movie as typical Arnold. Larger than life, cartoonish, ready to conquer the world. Then the predator slowly strips all that away. When you hear Billy scream and he whips around pointing his gun at the jungle behind him, he is absolutely terrified. It’s one of his best acting moments and makes the audience even more afraid

Going to watch it tonight.

I feel like we need to sync up a night for SherBros to watch Predator and start a PBP thread on it.

Would anyone be down?

I would actually say the reverse though, a lot of modern films with not so subtle social commentary throw it in your face to try and cover a story that's ultimately quite shallow, rather than one like Predator that has more depth to its basic concept/

The interesting thing about Predator for me is that whilst you could say its a "trial of masculinity" that's arguably not presented as a good thing. The way the soliders are presented is IMHO very different to Aliens, in that film theres a nasty uncaring arrogance to them bar Hicks where in Predator there shown to be more down to earth and generally nicer, its only Dillion and his more ruthless attitude they look down on. The end of the film as well isn't presented as some gloruious victory either, Dutch on the chopper gives the impression of a broken man.
