Talkin´ about the Spider vs Sonner 1 fight, not the Bonnar fight...

Context: before the fight, Sonnen kept insultin´ Minotau´s BJJ.
Spider, like most of ATGs, is known to be a weirdo [see his antics during the Maia fight, for instance].
I´ve always felt that he somehow planned to submit him in this 1st fight, jus´to teach him a lesson
and make him pay for dishespectin´ his new mentor.

Am I...reaching?

Edit:
Jus´saw this...

"Many people also don't know that Anderson Silva had a severely bruised rib cage before his fight with Chael, who had insulted the Nogueira Brothers' jiu jitsu around the same time. Anderson took the fight anyway, despite doctor's wishes, and promised Rodgrigo he would submit Chael. Anderson wore the gi and black belt he received from Nogueira on the way to the cage.
Silva: I will submit him.
Rodrigo: You will knock him out.
Silva: No, I'm going to submit him.
It's in the Anderson Silva documentary "Like Water"."
> This dialogue actually reminds me of the story about Spider´s matrix elbow vs Fryklund:
Spider said that he saw this move in a movie, and told one of his friends that he was going to do it during the fight. His friend told him to forget about it, as it would never work during a real fight, but Spider insisted he would do it...
