Was the Conor/Nate fight at 170 because Conor missed 155?

Apologies if this has been discussed before, I've been out of the loop for a while.

It seems to be commonly believed by the mainstream crowd that the Conor/Nate fight happened at 170 because Nate Diaz couldn't come down to 155 and thus Conor McGregor was brave for stepping up to 170.

But it occurred to me that Diaz was in great shape because he was training for a triathlon. On McGregor's side, it's possible that a fighter can move up a weight class, gain weight in the wrong way and thus overshoot their target weight. Also, this article is suggesting that McGregor requested the fight be at 170.

But I haven't been able to find anything definitive on the matter. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a definitive answer? Who requested that the fight be at 170 - Diaz or McGregor?

Technically McGregor.

But no, he wasn't going to miss weight. He weighed in at 168, cut minimal water and made a big deal about eating a lot prior to the fight (see Embedded).

After what he goes through to make Featherweight, Lightweight must be a breeze.

How could he have missed weight when weighins had not occurred and he was only 168? He was actually kind of small for LW.

They wanted the fight at 155

Diaz said 165 because 10 days is not enough to diet down and then cut while trying to get some training and doing all the media bullshit
Conor then said lets make it 170

Whatever the truth is, the fight should occur again. Give them plenty of time to bulk up so it is a more natural weight and then hopefully not too much of a cut. They can both be ready and therefore there will be no excuses.

Subtle misinformation Zuffa Pro McGregor thread.

Diaz was in Cabo drinking Tequila, getting water poison before the fight....he was not training for a triathlon.

Also Diaz said he would make 155 at first when UFC called.....but UFC didn't say shit then UFC called again and Nate said no 155.

I read that Nate offered to fight at 160 but Conor said lets make it 170
