Was Rashad injured when he lost his belt by Machida?

Davis and Hendo didn't have that difficulty
Machida pretty much dominated Hendo when something happened. Very low output fight tho and one of the dissapointments of 2013.

Machida straight up dominated and beat Davis 30-27 but was robbed blind in his homecountry. Davis had nothing absolutely nothing for Lyoto in that fight.

No he fought a guy who at the time was almost impossible to prepare for. There was no blue print at all for Machida until Shogun.
Yeah but Shogun had the speed to do it. Not all of Machida's opponents could do that.

Would agree - and if we disregard Jones, who is Jones - it took Machida losing a bit of his speed and reflexes due t to age before others started being able to really pull off what Shogun did in the 2nd fight.

Im not saying Shogun's way is the ONLY way to do it.

Just sayin you cant just replicate what Shogun did, even in the first fight. You have to be very fast, and a very good kicker to be able to do any kicks against Machida. Rashad tried to kick with him and realized he had to give that up immediatley.

Machida's style was difficult for other fighter's to solve well after. They had to find their own way to deal with it.

This is exactly right. He was being penalized by the judges for his elusive and often uneventful style and he became more aggressive and paid the price more than once
But he lost by Rampage precisely due to lack of aggressiveness

He had a hard time getting in on Page in those first two rounds.

Once he went for it in the third he fucked Page up. If Page didnt have an iron chin, he would have got finished there. He hit him with the same sequence that he beat Rashad with.

No he got injured training for shogun. Enter JBJ... Shogun got injured and like a dumbass warrior didn't pull out. Rest is history
Are you seriously insinuating any form of Shogun would have not been beaten? What fight did he fight after that looked like he could beat JBJ? I’ll wait

Yeah, true. But it was a MUCH cooler way to do it than Davis and (alledgedly) Rampage did it etc. Before the string of finishes happened later, only one outside of Shogun who made it look great was Jones.

Wait your whole life.

I dont think think Shogun would've won anyways unless eye pokes were also illegal but had he been healthy and eye pokes were kept legal Shogun likely loses but it would've been a much better fight.

Shogun with a bad knee lost to Forrest Griffin we saw what happened with no injury. Obviously bad knee Shogun who can't beat Forrest is gonna do poorly vs JBJ. Are you insinuating that there is no difference whether injured or not?

@Arqueto bless :)

Rashad hates every last one of us

The way I remember it Rashad and Greg Jackson bumped heads about how to prepare for this fight. Jackson wanted Rashad to use a karate style believing this would throw Machida off whereas Rashad thought that was an idiotic idea and opted to hone his existing boxing.

I could be wrong though, it’s been a while.
That is idiotic if true. Id be able to live with my decision getting ktfo on my own terms if I'm supposed to turn into Daniel San in a month.

he was definitely injured post fight. I dont believe he was injured prior to the fight though.

No he just looked like he didnt kow what to do. This Machida may have been the best LHW ever next to Jones.

Thank you brother same to you.

this really is one of the best GIFs ever

when JCVD gently caresses Fedor's neck Fedor is like WTF and his corner is on the ball and immediately grabs Fedor so he doesn't kill JCVD

Machida was incredible in his wins over Silva & Evans back to back.

Like Evans himself, JDS, and some other guys, once they’ve won the title it’s basically the apex of their career and they lose a step, don’t have the same hunger to stay on top as they had to get on top.

Or other people getting smashed. He was a fan favorite for a reason.

He was absolutely not a fan favorite and left a trail of split stinkers in his wake for being 'elusive'

Most of Machida's most popular fights feature him getting trashed.

He gets dinged for his boring fights but most of his fights ended in a vicious KO one way or the other. His highlight KO reel is a lot better than Jones' and I don't think that's debatable.

Jones made much of his career hurting people badly then submitting them, this is a bizarre comparison.

In any event, Machida lost to ranked fighters more often than not. I doubt he's .500 or better against ranked opponents.

lol it does sound insanely stupid. Having said that, it’s difficult to imagine that fight going much worse for Rashad than it did.

I’d have to dig for it but I remember this from an in person interview with Rashad from years ago where he was asked about his split from Jackson’s gym when they essentially chose to go with Jones over him so it may have been a sour grapes story but hilarious if true.
