As a young kid I loved Michael Jordan more than the sport itself. It was weird, just something about him that transcended the sport of Basketball. Same thing goes with Tiger Woods with Golf. They seem bigger than the sport. Did anyone else have the same affinity towards Jordan?

As a child, I tried to emulate his sticking out his tongue while trying to dunk on a kids basketball hoop and bit my tongue, so yes, he was one of my favorite athletes growing up. Him and the original fat Ronaldo

I didn't like basketball much but I was a huge fan of Michael Jordan. I know some people that didn't watch boxing much but they had to watch Mike Tyson fight.

Yup
Too bad you could never play as him in any video game.

I remember when NBA Jam came out in arcades, and the Chicago Bulls consisted of Pippen & Grant.
NBA Live for home consoles never had Jordan as a player on the Bulls.

I remember if him or tyson was on TV everyone stopped and watched

Yes they both had incredible aura about them that you can help but watch these guys do their thing. It's mesmerizing.

I only really got into basketball this season which is neat considering GSW are my local team. I was bought this on a shirt as a stocking filler this Christmas which is cool though, I do love Guy Fieiri.

I never cheered for him personally but he's the best player in NBA history, and it's not even close. I was a Bad Boys Pistons fan so I loved watching my team rough him up for years (When Basketball was actually a Man's Game).

Yes he was. Even as a Detroit Pistons Bad Boys fan. He was just one of those athletes that every kid admired. The same goes for Tyson, Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky, Bob Probert, Barry Sanders, Hulk Hogan, Joe Montana, etc... They were all larger than life to me growing up.

Basketball hardly existed as an organized sport in Sweden when I was a kid (the first league apparently started in 1992).
To me, Michael Jordan was just a face on t-shirts and the name of very expensive sneakers. The merch predated the sport by a good decade.

Yeup.

I more watched his run with the Wizards than the Bulls because I was very young during his time with the Bulls, although I do remember watching that shot he made over Russell to win his 6th ring. Even saw him live maybe twice when he played with the Wizards.

My basketball favorites growing up were MJ, then it became Allen Iverson, then it was Derrick Rose when I was in college.
Now, I dont watch basketball anymore.

Yes of course. i lived 2 hours outside of Chicago when he was playing. It was good fun watching MJ, when he was younger in particular. MJ was fun to watch when he played in the triangle offense, but before that, when he did more one of one play, he was unreal, better than everyone else playing I thought. I wasn't much of a fan of basketball before MJ. And now that he is retired 20plus years, I pretty much stopped watching pro basketball.

Of course, still have tons of memories watching him play. Then you factor in the commercial side of things, ads, Jordans, Space Jam, etc. practically inescapable.

I'm a Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings, and Packer fan. Even though I would root against them I always admired Barry Sanders and Jordan. Being a Piston's, Red Wings, and Tigers fan in the late 80's and 90's was awesome.
