Media Was Gane really going for the leglock or did he got sweep ?

Very possible that he baited him, fair enough. I don't think he did though, that's a bit far fetched. We all expected Gane to cruise on top to a UD win. I think Ngannou recognized what was happening and just didn't try to hide his foot. Like that old quote, never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Either way, Ngannou did not initiate the sweep first. Without Gane committing the worst error I can recall seeing in a HW title fight since Werdum ran straight into Miocic's fist, he does not get on top and win the fight.
yeah. this error is worse than weidman's spinning shit against rockhold for sure. Weidman was already losing that fight, but Gane could've probably gotten the split

I was confused last night. I thought it was a great sweep from francis but everyone kept sayin he went for a leg. He did that after getting swept
Definitely was posturing up to get to the leg. Went for it and Francis kicked up. No sweep. Imo.

Both. Cyril clearly goes toi start the leg lock sequence but Francis sweeps him with his butterfly hooks as he tries to set up the submission. Solid BJJ from Francis.

That or Cyril just posted his foot like a newbie grappler and got swept. I really don’t know which.

gane sucks so much in his grappling lmao, thats europe's biggest weakness how the fuck do you lose a grappling match with ngannou

Cut him some slack. Gane only has 3 years of MMA experience. He needs to go train at AKA with Khabib, Islam, & DC.

Ngannou swept him (@1:44)

After rewatching this... it seems odd to give the 5th to Ngannou... Cyril won 2:35 of the round and actually did something in terms of damage and attempting to end the fight.

100% Gane went for a leglock IMO. The knee popping up into the centre to try to isolate the leg is a giveaway. Its just that Gane still had the bloody left side underhook and still went for it, which effectively pulled Francis up on him giving him a sweep. There really wasn't a sweep there for Ngannou thus I don't think anything was initiated by Ngannou, it seemed to me like a poorly attempted leg attack initiated by Gane which had him end up on his back with no way to re-sweep.

There was no sweep there until Gane tried (poorly) to isolate the leg and attempt a leg attack of some kind. At least that's how I saw it

Horrible fight IQ

It was 100% a leg lock attempt. Ngannou just countered and got on top, as all beginner grapplers learn to do when a blue belt level setup like that happens. It isn't ambiguous, Gane was entirely responsible for initiating that sequence.
Yep, totally agree. Basically any grappler having this kind of leglock attempt thrown on it would recognise and do exactly what Francis did. Very clearly to me was an attempted leg attack that initiated that sequence.

Francis had wrist control and he's stronger, bigger. It was the wrong time for Gane to try what he tried

Watching closely it looks like Gane was trying to advance the position but black belt ngannou was With the overhook scissors swept him and then Gane went for the submission because he lose the position

yes yes yes I said this too it was the sweep no fuck game mistake I can’t believe dumb dc no notice that smfh any1 who train ground know it was a sweep then game try the lock which wasn’t even close cause Francis destroy his leg entanglement with hand great technique from Francis so game only had chest arm pressure which nothing Francis is least brown belt lvl this point no joking he did real good thing Ju Jitsu this fight

He got swept. He posted his right leg and was trying to get better position and create separation. Then he tried to stand on his left leg and Francis swept him. He already had Francis' leg between his arm and body and he just held it there.

Definitely was posturing up to get to the leg. Went for it and Francis kicked up. No sweep. Imo.

wtf are you talking about. it was a textbook sweep, Francis swept his base. Are you blind?

gane sucks so much in his grappling lmao, thats europe's biggest weakness how the fuck do you lose a grappling match with ngannou
He's been doing MMA for 3 years /shrug Ngannou is a big strong dude, he can get away with just power alone lol.
