True, the alternative would be to establish a safe zone in the country where refugees can congregate but that would mean being less aggressive in bombing bad actors so as to not provoke an attack on the safe zone. And that would require boots on the ground which is even more controversial.

There is literally no strategy outside of boots on the ground and refugeee relacation aboard that would work; and outside of pure altruistic reasoning, there's no reward for the US or other meaningful global actors to do it.

Unless, a united pan african force took the reigns from a military and governance standpoint and did so well enough that zero separatist militias tried anything major. Which of course is next to impossible.

One of the tragedies of the colossal failure of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan beyond the direct consequences and human suffering they caused is that its made the voting public so against military intervention that even small scale bombing campaigns against horrendous regimes are complete nonstarters.

Imo the nefarious actors in this Tigray conflict, the RSF and SAF in Sudan, and the junta of Myanmar at the very least should be threatened with a bombing campaign like what we did to Serbia in the 90s.

I hope the world doesn't forget the atrocities against the Bosnians.

Sometimes, when I watch a movie or see some clips on social media, I wish for super powers of invulnerability and to transport there to lay waste to such evil. Movies like Tears of the Sun/blackhawk down because I can’t stand to look at evil and lawlessness. I always tried to give some measure of that to victims of abuse in my police career, sometimes asking thr male domestic abusers if they would resist or did they only fight women. I guess that makes me a bit of a superhero lol

I am not a big believer myself. Way too many holes, however, I have such trouble with the Big Bang and how complex evolution is (and I watch shows daily about animals evolving to have intricate and seemingly deliberate “accidents” of genetics that lead an animal to develop two eyespots or some other weird happenstance of genes passed along or some strange adaptation-like the development of flight 4 separate times in examples of flight (insects, reptiles, birds, and mammals) or the 80 sometimes sight was developed in many large groups of creatures or the light years of brain development in humans to create cell phones, for example.

Back to religion, if it helps people understand their own mortality and come to grips with that, I see little harm in that aspect despite the holy wars that keep happening.

I think it was the UK or the Netherlands…they had large scale street clashes/riots between Eritrean immigrants because they accepted refugees that each had a side.

Those fleeing the government and those that support the government. Clearly, one side should not have been admitted if there was a basis for asylum for the other. So it’s clear good will has been burned and immigration systems are inadequate to vet any mass of migrants…and should largely be abandoned in favor of restrictions and enforcement. For the foreseeable future.
