Just finished Horus Heresy Legion and was wondering about the part when the Cabal showed Alpharius and Omegon the two possible paths that the Horus Heresy could go.

First scenario is Horus is defeated and the Emperor and Imperium continue on for a long time while Chaos slowly slips back in using humanity as a catalyst and eventually spreads throughout the galaxy corrupting everything.

The Cabal wants to of course avert this path because everything is destroyed by the primordial annihilator.

So that brings us to the second scenario.

The Alpha Legion aids the Cabal in ensuring Horus's victory. Once Horus kills the Emperor he regrets what he has become and then starts a crusade to wipe out humanity as well as the foothold Chaos has in humanity.

Both these scenarios are utter shite for humans.

Alpharius decides to carry out the Emperor's will which is ultimately to vanquish Chaos even it means the demise of humanity.

I don't mind spoilers and plan to continue to read the series but it's obvious the Alpha Legion failed the Cabal as Horus was defeated and the Imperium continues well into 40k knee deep in Chasos so what went down with the Alpha Legion that caused their failure.

I'm a 40k noob but I'm on the 8th book of the Heresy series and really digging the universe and lore (fluff).

Its hard to say
One theory is they are so compartmentalized that the later death of one of their primarchs left them rudderless without an overall plan
..various cells forever working on schemes within schemes and infiltration etc with no end goal in mind

Or their seperate captains had to devise their own agendas after the death based on what they persobaly think the overall plan originaly was...or their own personal wants


Or my fav....its all going as plan!!..the alphas never fully bought the idea of only 2 options and as usual had their own agenda playing all sides for humanitys benefit

(Cawls insistance on trying to use traitor legion geneseed for increased primaris production hasnt helped.....even though hes correct when he correctly said the geneseed is fine its the traitor primarchs that were at fault!)

yep
They do turn out new shit just insanely slowly but yeah cawl wiuld crank it up a gear! Plus using traitor marine geneseed would speed up their ability to make primaris....as he said the geneseed is fine the primarchs were to blame!
Best of all hes working on reverse emgineering pylons to counter chaos !!!!!! Ie the most important tech the imperium could ever need!!


The issue is guilliman doesnt trust him and the majority of the mechanicus think hes heretical :(
War with them would be the end of the imperium
 
New codex stuff has all kinds of titbits
-montarion and petarbo go toe to toe with draw beteeen primarchs...however nurgles infections break pretarbos boys down so montarion wins the engagement overall

- motarion also infects and breaks necrons and tyranids vs plauge marines = draw with uninhabitble toxic stew of planet wheee hive ships even destroy one of their own that trys to feed on it (it recoils from even tasting the biomass left by the fightng before being destroyed!)

-khorne noe feels tyranid vs ork war has created worthy prey....his servents go to take heads there and return with monterously large ones

More tidbits on current custodes etc
New mechanicum codex may empahisis differnce in mamy forge words going forward
 
More tidbits on lore from new mechanicus stuff
-the enormous warp rifts opened up have apparently triggered more necron wakeups
The crons seem to be targetting resource rich forge worlds to make antiwarp pylons ..in response the mechanicus is sending forces including cawls accolytes into huge clashes galaxywide

-even before that guiilliman and cawl etc have apparently cranked up all forge world production to never before seen levels

they are called Templar breatheren. And i think prior to the Imperial fist breaking up the, i think first assault and Templar breatheren were the ones who made the BT
