War Room Lounge v94: I'd need to ice up when I wasn't pounding cakes in that kitchen

I've pissed off a lot of military coworkers by arguing that we cant force democracy on people

Primarily bc it's never genuine and non selfish by the 'helping' nation, theres always an ulterior motive usually related to a new regime favorable to resource extraction.

I love our hegemonic military power, I'm employed by it, but the way it's used makes almost no sense to me

When dafuq were we actually isolationists bud lol
sans our trips to the phillipines (worst thing we’ve ever done, but they got over it...thank god) late 1800’s/Early 1900’s America had very little ambition compared to the Englands and Frances of the world. Dude, look how long it took for us to enter WWII lol

When we don’t put fires out, they get out of control. Sometimes we use a firehose when a bucket suffices but still. Not saying America is/has been flawles, but this constant idea that we’re just up in everyone’s shit with no justifiable cause is boring. And fact is, other countries are more than willing to btfo of one another for a drop of attention and intrigue.

Yet, if we don’t mash our hands in the bowl, the same people complaining that we get too mixed up in foreign affairs whine that we’re “turning our backs” on people. It’s hilarious.

Also we should nuke every communist nation tbh

Nah man, we were still up to various buttfuckery. But our ability to execute outside the western hemisphere was very limited in the face of much larger and more powerful European navies.

Of the two countries not colonized in the Scramble for Africa, one was Ethiopia and the other was Liberia, almost solely due to the US backing it

We should deserve like an iota of credit for that, bc at the same time the Belgian ruler literally personally owned the Congo and was going apeshit on the local populace and other extremely wild situations

Also, we have no intention of installing democracy.

We're the ones that overthrew Iran's democratic leader and instated a dictator.

So I've been reading about Austrlia and I am no scientist but it seems like the reasoning of the various parties is really flawed almost like people don't understand things can be cause by more than one thing. I don't know if either of the first two things impacted the fires or to what extent they were cause by arsonists but

Assuming Climate change impacted the scope of the fires that does not mean banning controlled burns did not impact them either.

Assuming regulating controlled burns impacted the scope of the fires that does not mean climate change did not impact things either.

Even if it was caused by arson that does not mean climate change or government interference with controlled burns did not aggravate the situation

I just keep seeing some bad logic even assuming everything a given side is arguing is true

@Ruprecht is there any validity to what I am reading about your government making controlled burns really hard to do and that impacting the scope of the fires?

What about this idea?

What's being blamed on climate change (by anyone that's worth listening to anyway), is the duration, frequency and extent of droughts (which also massively effects the amount of fuel), combined with the record breaking unseasonably warm weather.
No doubt the severity and extent of the fires could be reduced by prescribed burns in the cool months, but that's state policy not national. NSW certainly lags behind there, but there's been fires across the nation.
There's always prescribed burns in my state for instance, but we've still had two regions (Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island) massively effected by fires.
Another argument those that deny climate change will throw up is that there were "worse" fires in 1982 and 1938, but that's "worse" in terms of lives lost, not the extent of the fires (which are unprecedented in scale). The changes in building codes and improved fire services since then have certainly saved lives (and not just with the fires this season).

Also, we have no intention of installing democracy.

We're the ones that overthrew Iran's democratic leader and instated a dictator.
Well no shit
That's just the purported reason

This isnt 1820s when we snatched Florida and just told Spain eat a dick, you have at least ostensibly make up some reason to intervene

Dude, it was on a very very very small scale compared to Britain and France

Theres very few examples where we dont do that, off the top of my head Somalia is the only clear recent case
Got in, tried to help, wasnt happening, gtfo there and said Good Luck

To this day 80% of Somalia is lawless, not controlled by the laughable central government

A much lesser case could be made for Kosovo, but we clearly tried to help one side there, but there wasnt a lingering presence. That was also initially a UN thing

Cool
It wasnt our personal property, and then forced into a colony bc INTL sanctions even then had to step in

That's not even getting into the issues later with the polio vaccine

No
I'm saying dont be the world police period, or only intervene when its like preventing what happened in say former Yugoslavia, or tbh many of the current situations in Africa, i.e. genocide type ish
