Arabic sounds gross to me personally
i'd rather learn more Dari or Pashto
or by default Persian obviously
Shit, no idea.![]()
Let's play a game: Before you Google who Acton Bowen is, guess
1) what he did before he was arrested,
2) what he was arrested for, and
3) how many years in prison he got
something about Arabic seems too harsh to mePersian is also a fantastic set of languages! And again, actually differentiates your skills from 600 million others.

Oh so you learned Quranic Arabic? I kinda want to learn that but that seems like it'd be the hardest and least practical.Ideally you’d learn a real-world dialect and Modern Standard Arabic simultaneously, but unless you are doing that full time in an Arabophone country it’s not feasible.
Duo recently introduced a new Modern Standard Arabic course that is pretty good. Since most of my Arabic knowledge is quranic, which is not particularly similar to any modern speech, I completed the Duo course for fun and enjoyed it.
The biggest problem with learning Arabic is that it has an appallingly complex verbal conjugation system. The duo program doesn’t even attempt teaching you any of it.
Dialects are usually a lot simpler. The duo program has full case inflection, as MSA, but it doesn’t explain it or test you on it besides masculine/feminine agreement. It’s kind of weird.
As for Spanish, I’ve lived in SoCal almost my entire life and never felt any use for it. Most people already have pidgin knowledge of Spanish here, and you don’t need more than that for everyday life. If you are constantly working directly with a random selection of people (like in healthcare or customer service), then it’s valuable I suppose.
Dari and Pashto seem to hard and too niche to invest the time into learning. I know you're a veteran so it had its usefulness to you but its not like there's a lot of opportunity in Afghanistan as far as I know.Arabic sounds gross to me personally

Might be worth it just to read the Masnavi in its original language if for nothing else.Persian is also a fantastic set of languages! And again, actually differentiates your skills from 600 million others.
I guessed it right! At least generally. Not gonna spoil for others.![]()

oh no doubt, i was thinking more for Persian/Iran usageOh so you learned Quranic Arabic? I kinda want to learn that but that seems like it'd be the hardest and least practical.

I JUST GOOGLED IT HAHAHAHAHAHhe had like 15 years in prison.
How hard a language is to learn depends on what languages you already know. If English wasn't his first language then his experience won't be like what an English speaker learning Arabic would go through and since he was born in Sudan and raised in Doha it probably came more naturally to him.oh no doubt, i was thinking more for Persian/Iran usage
a friend of mine is a linguist in the Army, born in Sudan but raised in Doha. He speaks Arabic, Swahili, and some other random African language i can't recall. I wanna say he said Arabic wasn't that bad to pick up, he found it relatively easy although that was also through immersion.
Remember how Aquaman could talk to fish? Just think for a second how stupid that power is compared to being able to communicate with people regardless of what language they speak. I mean, how often do you find yourself thinking""I wish I could talk to this fish" compared to "I wish I could understand this foreign language"
I JUST GOOGLED IT HAHAHAHAHAH
If the recent pardon list of the Kentucky governor who lost re-election is any indication, it could get really ugly.Wait for the pardon.
Really, tho, I expect Trump's list of pardons in his last year to be really, really gross. "Oh, he raped, killed, and ate a troop of girl scouts? Well, he said I'm awesome so yolo."
