@Trotsky @Jack V Savage how would you guys respond to a characterization of transnational authorities such as the UN as "liberal imperialism"?

I'm reading a book now that positions the latter as the fundamental opposition to nationalism, but something about it feels off. The author suggests that the philosophy of globalization is just the latest incarnation of imperial Rome/Germany/Britain etc.

I get where it's coming from, but I think that's stretching the definition of imperialism too far. And if globalization here just means free trade, that benefits both sides of it, but the poorer countries benefit more. It's not one country or group of countries using force to dominate others; it's all countries working together for their mutual best interests.
