You were concerned I would criticize your choices? No confusion, you’re the guy trying to tell me which kind of ass blasting to take. I don’t mean to presuppose your motivation for doing so but it’s the kind of topic many people get moralistic about. So I just wanted to cover my ass, as it were.

Lmao. I love that they drew up murder charges for this.
Other sources told the publication how Chau had visited various Andaman and Nicobar sslands five times in the past, but had ‘a strong desire to meet Sentinelese Tribes for preaching Christianity’.
Journalist Subir Bhaumik, who’s been covering the islands for years, told the BBC:
Police said Chau had previously visited North Sentinel island about four or five times with the help of local fishermen.
The number of people belonging to the Sentinelese tribe is so low, they don’t even understand how to use money. It’s in fact illegal to have any sort of contact with them.
Chau is said to have made a failed attempt to reach the island on November 14 but when he came to an agreement with fishermen, they took him to a certain point before he travelled the rest of the distance in his own canoe, alone.
Police have arrested seven of the fishermen for illegally ferrying the man to the island.

Last year the Indian government also made it illegal to take photographs or videos of the tribes, with the act being punishable with imprisonment of up to three years.
Various global organisations, including Survival International, campaign to save the Sentinelese tribe, as well as the Jarawa, who are at risk of contracting disease if they have contact with the outside world.
The Sentinelese tribe in particular are vulnerable as they live in complete isolation, meaning they’re likely to have no immunity to common illnesses including flu.

What's funny about this? This is going to be used to attack the Indian government for protecting indigenous tribes, when it should be used as a "reap what you sow" since this guy broke several laws in getting to an island that he knew was the protected home of a hostile indigenous tribe. The Indian government is going to take flack when it really shouldn't.
This idiot was trying to proselytize.

I don't think the Indian Government is going to get much blowback for this. I think this guy is going to get headlines for The Darwin Awards.
If this happened down in Brazil I could see local business interests interested in their resources running out a smear campaign against the indigenous people to get that sweet lumber but not here.
These people make the front page of TIL on reddit once a month because people love the idea of an uncontacted people on an island in the middle of the ocean.
just to be clear the murder charges are against the fisherman who took him to the island which is against the law.

Because I highly doubt they're going to actually follow through with anything.
No one gives a fuck about some dumb fuck missionary who died breaking the law.
Honestly, the first thing that came to mind when I read the story was the story/pictures from Brazil last year of the fossil fuel workers slaughtering the tribe of uncontacted indigenous persons, apparently just for the fun of it, and dumping them in the river. I understand the huge interest in uncontacted peoples, as they are going to be a complete thing of the past within the century, but shit like this needs to be nipped in the bud.
Ahhhh, it's hard for me to lay much of the blame with anyone but the deceased.

I think you took my initial post too seriously. It was just an excuse to say ass blasting more than twice. You were concerned I would criticize your choices?
I presumed your post was a sort of damned if we do and damned if we don't analogy, and I merely pointed out that, of 2 shitty alternatives, there was one that was demonstrably less shitty than the other. You appear to disagree and use your vote to make your choice count your way. A pinhead might find fault with that. I merely think it's unfortunate. Here in Canada, there is a 3rd party that I once or twice wished had won power; they never had a chance because people wouldn't vote for them because they didn't have a chance and so on. So I get not doing that dance.
That dude is KIND of like the kid that got imprisoned in NK for trying to take a political poster.
Like... the fuck you think was going to happen? They all spoke English and would give you food or something?
And my reply was intended to be in the sameI think you took my initial post too seriously. It was just an excuse to say ass blasting more than twice.
They should get some small amount of flack, though. The article posted by @AgonyandIrony says the situation may have been precipitated by relaxation of protections by the Indian government. Sure the guy got got because he broke the law and that's that, but it seems the government may played a small role. What's funny about this? While I agree to a point I think it's less arrogance and more of an ignorance for the fact that the world as a whole is not a safe place and you don't get second chances in almost any other place BUT they US.And both were American. It speaks to the unrepentant arrogance of our country. I guess at least this guy had what he thought was a benevolent cause (spreading the gospel). The other kid was just a drunken idiot recklessly disrespecting a country he knew had a sore spot for disrespect by Americans.
