I think boxing at its best is better than MMA at its best, but normal high-level MMA is more fun than normal high-level boxing, and MMA at its worst is way better than boxing at its worst.

Ever see Ken Shamrock-Dan Severn II?

I can get that but I still have always enjoyed watching even guys like the Klitschko brothers fight.

I know in terms of excitement they are very low on the list but at the same time in MMA I have always enjoyed watching Fitch/Okami type fights because EVERYONE and their dead ancestors knows what those guys are going to do and seeing if someone can stop them is where the enjoyment comes for me at least.

There is something to be said where a bad MMA fight is just... BAD.

There's just something great about what him and his brother did. Everyone knew they were going to jab and straight them into the grave for 12 rounds and almost no one could stop them. I know Lewis beat Vitali with the cut and Wladimir saw the mat several times and got stopped by Joshua to end his career but goddamn.

The fight alternately known as "The Staredown"

First MMA fight I ever watched. And, for many, I presume it was the last.
I'm so lucky the Japanese side of my family are fight fans. Uncle (now deceased) took me to the Cro Cop/Aleks fight and a couple K1 cards when we would go to Japan. First fight I remember seeing was CC/Aleks then my dad dug up the Gatti/Ward trilogy.

lol I remember thinking "okay, if they actually fight for a few minutes at the end I'll forgive them."

MMA was something very special and strange back in the day...we put up with a lot of nonsense.

My mom wasn't a fan of her brother taking me to a fight event. I was already in high school but she was NOT a fan.

I want you to understand that when I said "Karate Kid Pt. II" I meant the Hillary Swank version. I didn't realize that she did not star until the fourth film of the franchise.

spent an hour chasing after a tiny runaway dog, must have been 7 lbs at most. It got away so I am sad.

last month a neighbor tripped and dropped the leash on their new rescue -- there were like 15 people, most of which were motorist who pulled over chasing the little guy for 40 mins.. we got him but the poor little guys paws were torn open

I watched the UFC from the beginning, and I used to get Shooto or Pancrase stuff on the puroresu mix tapes I'd get on Ebay, but the sport kind of sucked in the early days, and I knew it. I would say the rise of Nog (starting in RINGS) was when I really started respecting the sport instead of watching it as a kind of guilty pleasure. There were other moments of that (like seeing Belfort's UFC debut was an exciting moment; and I was a Saku mark, like probably most people here), but that was kind of the turning point for me.

You know... I don't think I ever saw any of them other than the very first and original one.

I caught it after the VHS tapes started hitting Blockbuster. I think I started with UFC 2 and only saw UFC 1 much later. Watched them as they came out, then checked out of MMA for a few years, until the early 2000s when Pride was becoming something special.

I was frustrated with the early guys too. Was really happy to see Ruas come along, and I was kind of bummed when wrestling + headbutts started dominating.

You guys ever read the interview with the Just Bleed guy?

Pretty interesting stuff. The guy had/has a Master's degree, and that was probably the most surprising thing I learned from it. He also was like an adrenaline junkie who jumped to MMA from cockfighting and dog fighting. Then he spent half a decade in prison for X.

You mean Ecstasy?

No, didn't see that interview. I remember when "Just Bleeder" was a HW term for a certain kind of dumbass fan (or did it secretly refer to child sex slaves?).

Yes, grandpa. I think he was also known to do marijuana.

Interesting tbh. Claims to be "more liberal and progressive" than most men from Mississippi. And says that he wasn't just caught up in douche-citement at that moment, but he was trying to make the case for his city/state getting future UFC events.
