I largely give Republicans/idiots a pass for not having a strong understanding of equality of opportunity. It's equal parts limited life experience, stupidity, and politicization.

Yeah (the concept of equality of opportunity is pretty fuzzy in itself), but I was thinking of your comment about how there isn't even a pretense of doing anything positive. The mindset on the dumb right is that politics is pure symbolism, and identity politics is all there is. It's important to have a candidate be the type of person who says he likes equality of opportunity but not that he do anything to make it happen. That approach explains the people who say they vote for Trump because they don't like BLM protesters. The vote is just a declaration of allegiance.
