@Andy Capp

Depending where you were looking at the prices for the 3070 and 3080 you could have seen third party sellers, aka scalpers, trying to sell them for like 4 grand.
It was roughly $1500 for the 3070 and $800 for the 2060, $300 for the 1660. All prices CDN. *

On the other hand, if I were to upgrade, I could play a lot of older games easily that I have not yet played either. There's a bazillion of them so I doubt I would need to worry about running out of games to play without upgrading further. The question is, I guess, if I go with a lesser card, how old would the games have to be before they would play well on my rig? Say I got the very best card I can for $300?

*Yes, I know I sound poor, but that's only because I am, to be fair LOL

My card is 4 years old and is considered the minimum for this:

I have the 1070

So, @Falsedawn Re: the laptop situation,

First, the original which needs to be replaced is an AMD A10-5745M with 8G ram of which 7.2 is useable, the new one I purchased was $800+tax and got me a Ryzen 5 w/ 8G RAM of which 6 is useable. The alternative I looked at before ordering was $890 and it had 16GB ram and onboard graphics with a Ryzen 7 and am starting to think I should have chosen it. It also had a 1TB SSD instead of 512. I get the feeling it would have a much longer useful life for not much extra money. What do you think?

Literally the only way I have ever had one. To be honest I'm not even sure I know what American cheese is. I always assumed it was a mild cheddar variant.
It's yellow like cheddar... that's where the similarities stop.
