Everyone seemed to be focusing on Conor, and talking about that instead of Khabib's actions. It's the classic whatabout defense. You see it here endlessly from Trump supporters.

"But what about Hillary!?!"

It's just as silly here. I also don't buy the idea about religion, etc. being off limits. I prefer GSP style fight promotion, but this is part of the game in prizefighting. Khabib should've never jumped into the crowd. He should've called Danis out in the cage, or gone to his gym and challenged him old school style. You have to keep this shit out of the area of the professional sport.

Conor was wrong before, but Khabib and his crew were wrong now. I have no patience for "men" who can't control their emotions. Khabib isn't some kid on the playground defending his dad. He's a 30 year old professional athlete.
When Conor freaked out and busted up that van, people actually got hurt. For real hurt. What happened last night was a big loud scuffle with no injuries. It's not that Khabib's conduct should be condoned, but rather that there's a double standard at play here. The UFC used the bus incident to market the fight ffs. And now the media is treating Khabib like he is some sort of scumbag. What was the reaction when Werdum kick Edmond? I remember a lot of people, including myself, applauding because Edmond is a fuckin turd.... but understanding it could cost him. Accepting that something warrants punishment isn't the same as taking a moral stance.
Khabib is going to get the book thrown at him so the UFC can pretend that they take this stuff seriously, and then turn around and go right back to using it to sell their fights. They encourage and reward it. McGregor has pulled stupid, violent shit multiple times now and been actively rewarded, so saying we draw the line at Khabib seems like a pathetic attempt to prop up the golden goose that just got strangled and score some PR points when they face criticism for this stuff again down the road.
"Of course we take this stuff seriously, just look at what happened with Khabib. But what _____ did tonight isn't on that level. Believe me, he'll pay for it with the commission." *proceeds to slap wrist*

I agree that they should come down hard on Khabib, and all similar types of conduct in the future.

Has there ever been a fighter with Pettis' mix of talent, confidence, and shittiness? He's not washed up--he just doesn't have a clue about how to use his considerable skills to actually win fights (and rivals Gus as having the worst footwork of any big-name fighter).
Pettis got exposed hard.

Meh, I don't think this is whataboutism. It's one thing to bring up Hillary or Obama out of nowhere (with nothing but conspiracy theories to boot) when faced with a Trump story entirely unrelated to them in order to switch topics. But in this case McGregor and Khabib are in this shit together. Cause and effect. Pointing out that McGregor and his goons probably deserve some ass kicking is just that, not an attempt at completely changing the conversation.

As for bringing up religion, it's just not a good idea when you're dealing with someone from a completely different background. That's not to say "those Russians are crazy" or whatever, just that the person saying those things often has no idea of how impactful that topic is to the person hearing about it. I'm sure if someone said something to McGregor like "I'm going to take everything away from him, most importantly his potatoes", he would be visibly upset. The topic of Islam in Russia is rather complicated and depending on the region it can go from mostly uneventful to bringing up memories of outright ethnic cleansing. Just don't go there. In more than one occasion I've seen Americans go from "grow a pair, nothing is off limits" to "fuck you you piece of shit" when someone goes "hooray 9/11" or something to that effect.

McGregor tried to push his buttons (to hype the fight and possibly rattle Kabhib). He succeeded, more than he hope to.

They are going to come down hard on Khabib and continue giving a pass to certain fighters in the future, which will actively encourage the thing they are coming down hard on Khabib for. And they will use it to sell fights.

I think you are spot on with your analysis brother.

Probably true, and I'm with you in not liking it. Frankly, if they wanted to suspend Conor as well for a totality of actions, I'd be fine with it.

I just want to see the greatest fights possible.

Alan Belcher was very confident and talented, and he had terrible fight IQ. Just abhorrent.

Was it six month for Nashville brawl? I say 9 for khahib.

This brings up a topic that I think is very interesting. Since McGregor got a slap on the wrist for something that was far worse, is it wrong to wish Khabib goes unpunished? I don't, fuck him, but still... I totally understand if people want to do away with any punishment system that is so blatantly arbitrary and comes second to financial stakes.

Khabib should be punished but I get you. I think taking his whole purse is a bit much but justifiable but at that point don't suspend him, at least for long.

I just want to move away from the double standards

It's maddening

3 Months and $5K if they didn't contest it, $20K and 9 Months if they did.

Yes. And I hope, if it comes down to it, they utilise the "anti islam" discrimination angle. Fuck them, they made their bed.

What I mean was, yes, I hope khabib goes unpunished, and cries anti-islam to force it. Because they blatantly play favorites. Hope it bites them in the ass.
