One of my favorite bars had a favorable playboy review on their wall from way back.

It's sad that an American institution had to get axed, but once internet porn took off and they lost their hook, it was only a matter of time.

I wonder what the modern equivalent is. Even if not in explicit content. Are there any publications left so seemingly well rounded?

I didn't hear that particular c word. Its unintelligible.

he uh....well...Get's plausible deniability because...

Will be very interesting if him and people like him (Purely talking people with similar political opinions here) get more vocal and outdoors.

Playboy was internationally renowned for their guides, opinion pieces, deep dive investigative articles, and short stories. In 2020 there's more value in the historical content than there is the tits. Not to say the tits aren't nice.

Falsedawn do you remember a playmate named Stacy Sanchez from the 90s. I remember being a kid and seeing her playboy somewhere and I was all

Yes somehow porn became speech.
You probably should have read more than the case name before showing off.

Flynt's obscenity case wasn't decided on first amendment grounds. And the Hustler case, which is more famous and did involve speech rights, did not involve pornography.

Tbh i don't really care about the advancement of smut or smut pushers. That seems to be a topic you're an expert on tho so I'll give you that.

It was a case on satirical free speech. It laid the ground work for guys like Matt and Trey to lampoon everyone under the sun on South Park, etc. Basically you can't sue someone for slander/libel if they are being satirical - that is a good thing. Otherwise everyone would be off limits.

Good stuff to know, my man.

I don't recall a Flynt case other than when he published a first person narrative about Jerry Falwell getting drunk and losing his virginity to his mom in, iirc, a tool shed.

Yeah, it was actually a rather important case not just for everyone's freedom of speech in general, but for comedians and artists specifically imo. Imagine not being able to make a joke about some politician or religious figure because they were protected under some censorship law.

It just seems intuitively odd for me that it wasn't settled until the 80s. I'll have to look more into the history of satire and parody in the US when I have the time.

@PolishHeadlock2 How did you think the debate went?

I couldn't bring myself to watch more than ten minutes or so. My biggest pet peeve is, again, that the Democrats (Harris) fail to rebut the basically incorrect propositions of achievement from the GOP. Pence said "we built the greatest economy ever through tax cuts, etc." The response should be "No, you didn't. The economy grew at the same pace it was projected to before you came into office, except that you broke the budget to give tax cuts to get us to the same place we otherwise would have been."

I mean, I get that it's hard to think on the spot, but it's a DEBATE. You should be addressing your opponent's points directly instead of ceding them and talking about something else.

It's frustrating to watch because I can absolutely understand a casual viewer watching that and thinking Pence is right, the GOP is good, and the Dems are just sniping. Obviously, if you apply yourself a read actual analyses and articles by intelligent persons, you know otherwise. But these persons don't.

The problem with addressing your opponent directly is that usually puts you in a reactive position that requires actual thinking. This can work well if you have the faculties to counter off the dome in a high stress situation but most people do not. Throw in time constraints and its a gamble. Better to play it safe and just stick to the script. This strategy helped Biden tremendously. Just try to remember and repeat.

An even debate is a win given how the polls are trending.
