It is kinda sad that Hitler has become a conversation terminator. Like, if you see a legitimate parallel between a current event and Nazi Germany, you've broken Godwin's law and your point is moot.

Hitler and the Nazis have fallen into the realm of "racist" or "Islamaphobe" or "homophobe" for me.

There are people that are legit similar to them (Hitler/Nazis) or are legit racist, Islamaphobe, and homophobes... but it gets so OVERUSED in accusations that they've lost any and all weight.

Yeah, the fact that X is an extreme Yist and did really bad things doesn't mean that all Yists are going to do the same thing. A spectrum is the opposite of a binary system. But I think the left is more on the defense here, as we see some misinformed rightists redraw the spectrum in a way that leaves the actual left erased.

Wildfire smoke.

There's a massive fire in one of the counties to the northeast of where I live and since I live in a valley it enters the valley and stays here (we aren't getting any sort of breeze right now and no rain to clear it out). And the California fires smoke is filtering towards us too.

Add in, it's cooling off, brutally fast. It was in the 80s just a week ago. This morning it was 50, next week... it's going to drop into the 30s at night. That weather pattern causes smog and wildfire smoke to sink low and sit as the cold air sits on top of it.

There's enough brush that catches fire and the Wasatch mountain range actually has a decent amount of trees in it in certain parts of it.

What's really the wildfire hazard here is the fucking sage brush. Add in we only got like 3" of rain since May.....

Nothing good ever comes from those threads because its impossible to engage in a meaningful discussion without all the facts. These threads usually devolve into people arguing for or against multiple hypotheticals. Its dumb.

What you're witnessing from the conservative members is pushback to the mobs "react first, facts latter" m.o. One too many times we've been fed false info whether it be from a "witness", family member, or from just plain shity press. Given the increase in mob violence for any transgression, whether real or perceived, the skeptics approach seems to be the most rational.

Basically, wait it out until all the pertinent facts come forth - including body cam footage.

My personal intuition based on what was presented is that this was a bad shooting.

BTW- I only made it 3 pages in but the only really shitty thing posted was a pic of Dorner.

And the law was that as conversations continue, the probability of Hitler coming up approaches 1 (and then it's implied that that means it's over). Not that one can never mention him. He's made it clear that the Charlottesville types merit the comparison. BTW, @Lord Coke, Zeleny once challenged him to a duel.

I knew a guy who was pretty much every rightist's worst nightmare--a high school teacher who had a side business selling marijuana (which is how I knew him--a close friend of mine was a regular customer) and would distribute Communist literature along with his main product to some customers. Guy was super intense and looked it. Long, white beard, skinny but strong-looking, Manson eyes. Really in favor of violent revolution, and a hardcore CTer. I heard he had a big flag of Cuba hung up in his house. Super anti-racist, too (white, BTW). The friend of mine who bought from him wasn't a big reader, and he'd pass the stuff on to me and later introduced us ("this is the guy I was telling you about who actually reads all the shit you give me"). We argued a bit, but it ended with a handshake. That led to him dropping his literature off to me directly ("read, absorb, pass on"). A lot of hot garbage, but also some good stuff mixed in. Led me somewhat indirectly to read Kropotkin and many other interesting anarchist thinkers (kind of weird that he'd mix Marxist stuff in with like Bakunin denouncing Marx) that did influence me. He's probably long dead by now. Been maybe 20 years since I've seen him, and he didn't seem like he had anywhere near that long to go.

He sounds like the IRL liberal crime squad
