I don't remember, but I'm sure my argument was that it did a great job of avoiding the trap of becoming a clone while paying enough fan service to earn the "Evil Dead" title.

It had a lot of great scenes inspired by the original (and the sequel) but also some very cool original scenes with amazing practical effects. The acting was very solid, and the backdrop of heroin addiction was a good opener.

Honestly, it would have played as a great homage if they didn't use the Evil Dead branding outright. A heroin addict coming with friends and family to an obscure cabin, and her withdrawal causes a lot of confusion while fucked up shit gets worse and worse?

I think the movie would have gotten a lot more love (even though it has plenty) if it wasn't using the Evil Dead name.

Liked him in Training Day. And that's pretty much it. I listened to Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five on audiobook a few years ago, and Hawke was the reader. He was fucking awful.

Ethan Hawke is a pretty good actor. He's made some shite, but he's also got some gems under his belt.
