I saw that, pretty cool.

I thought Takahashi might make the list twice but I guess Inuyasha wasn't as beloved as Ranma and UY is probably a bit too old by now to have much impact on modern manga fans.

I was actually surprised to even see Ranma on that list

Yeah figured Inuyasha would make the cut due to coming out more recently but I guess not. I really liked it. As a battle shounen its alright but as a kid I was always embarrassed to admit that really my favorite parts were the romantic comedy parts. Like okay who cares about this Naruku fight, I know its a clone and they won't get a step closer to catching. Just get to the part where Kagome and Inuyasha go on a date or he meets her parents or whatever.

To me Inuyasha dragged on too long with too many “almost caught him” moments.

I get THATS weird coming from a One Piece and Ippo fan but that’s how I felt about it before I even started getting into Ippo or One Piece

I've never seen a full episode. For some reason, Inuyash never held my attention. Would usually skip it when it came on Toonami. I should give it another shot.

Not weird at all, haven't read or watched much One Piece but its still a battle shounen at its core. What I'm saying about Inuyasha is that as a battle shounen there wasn't enough progression with the big bad story arc. But what you and I missed is that Takahashi is first and foremost a romantic comedy writer. I suspect if you go back and watch the series with that in mind you might enjoy it more.

Lots of battle shounens have a romantic subplot but they are often dragged on and not really developed, often just teased a bit here and there and then resolved quickly in the end. Inuyasha flipped the script and did that with the actual big bad story arc and instead fleshed out the romantic subplots more.

Imagine if frequently in between doing ninja shit, Naruto and Hinata had romantic comedy shenanigans or Sakura had an episode where she and Rock Lee actually went on a few dates or heck even had an entire romantic arc. That's kinda what Inuyasha did. Man now that I think about that probably would've made Naruto more bearable, I wish we had more battle shounens like that. When its all battling all the time, the stakes and tensions around the battles can feel diminished over time. Breaking that pacing up with slice of life/romantic comedy stuff can make those battle moments all the better.

I liked it at the time but I am not sure I'd recommend it now unless you're the type of person who sets aside lots of time for anime. As a kid I would DVR the episodes, two a night on Toonami, and then binge ten episodes on the weekend. Nowadays I barely watch anime so if I am going to set aside time for one it better be fucking good. Not sure I could say that for Inuyasha despite admiring how unique of a series it is.

One Piece actually does this well.

You have Sanji’s character who is infatuated with every woman he meets... and none reciprocate including Robin and Nami then you have Luffy who the Amazon queen Boa Hancock swoons over and he’s completely oblivious to it to the point it angers Sanji

Can we get a megathread in the dump to contain all this weeb shit?
Many reoccurring Lounge conversations have megathreads for them somewhere else on the site. There's an Anime/Manga thread in the Mayberry, presumably there's threads for baseball in the Sports Lounge, and there's a whole subforum for pro-wrestling shit. And yet even still, we bring it up here
<WhatItIs>

If we over analyze it, it will fit perfectly in the lounge

I need to watch this again.

Also, the older you get the more you can spot parallels between anime/manga and real world shit.

Gundam SEED is great. Bunch of people called "coordinators" who had their genes manipulated by their parents while they were in the fertilized egg stage to be smarter, have faster reactions so on and so forth... live in space but outwardly look human while the "naturals" are on earth and they have a giant fucking war over bullshit because people can't get over others being different than them.

Black Lagoon is about some chick that was broken by growing up on the street and killing people from a young age to survive and how a 3rd party, a former businessman, views her.

Suck it @Rational Poster
