Okay, that's hilarious. I'm at the point where, since he does so much objectionable stuff, I give him a pass if it makes me smile.

This one, the commentary on Puerto Rico's ocean water, bigly, etc.

Wow. Hope they got the license plate. Should be slam dunkcase given the vid,

Yeah, he's in police custody. Still a mystery as to why he did it. I tend to doubt it was politically/racially motivated since it was just a dancing kid and he was with his black teacher. But that's not the narrative right now.

Oh man, that is brutal satire. obviously a joke but wow...

I thought that we would for sure get to spend some time in the full contact karate world of the late 1960s/early 1970s, but in a documentary on the biggest sports channel in the world there was not even passing mention of Bruce's time spent in that world.
Yup. Obviously they weren’t going for this kind of story, but will anyone ever (please)?

I guess we can all just remain hopeful. I think your other criticisms are mostly spot on, though I still enjoyed it as someone who isn’t as well versed as yourself in Lee lore.

Ever watch commercials where the "Emo-ify" upbeat 90's songs? Acoustic guitar slowing down the chords, with a female singer bringing it all home? Saw one the other day, and it was some one hit wonder song(I wish I could remember the title), all emo-ified for some COVID commercial.

I'm just waiting for "Two Princes" to be made into a COVID emo song.

"One two...princes...who...adore you...that's what I said now..."

LOL

I'm sorry, but do you really think there are more obstacles to breaking objectivism into academia than there are for Marxism?

No, I don't think that. I know it. And here's how I know it: Objectivism still hasn't broken into academia while Marxism has been a staple of it since before I was born.

Marxian academics have been blackballed for decades

When it comes to large statements like this, it's best to be specific. Where, by whom, and how have (which?) Marxian academics been blackballed? Because in my neck of the woods (the humanities) the Marxists have been running the show for half a century now.

And it's the same for the legal profession, my profession, where affiliation with socialist causes gets you blackballed while affiliation with objectivism puts you on a fast-track to the highest legal positions

There's a place where being affiliated with Objectivism gets you fast-tracked for career advancement? That's even better than a place where everybody knows your name! Who are these fast-tracked Objectivist lawyers occupying the highest legal positions?

Personally, my thoughts on Rand are that, after giving her an honest try twice in my life, her stuff is just bad. It's reduction dressed up as profundity. And, in the case of Atlas Shrugged, it's not even remotely interesting or entertaining.

Fair enough. From an artistic standpoint, I marvel at the intricacy of her plotting and the way that she can embed philosophy in drama (nowhere better than in Atlas Shrugged IMO), while, from a philosophical standpoint, I appreciate as a welcome breath of fresh air her logical rigor and terminological precision.

Given that you're clearly a bright guy, my hunch - and this may be completely wrong - is that the value that you see in her work is more the product of your own contrarianism and curiosity than what is on the page.

This is why I posted that Ferris Bueller clip earlier about believing in "me" rather than in any "-isms." I have no "allegiance" to Rand (or to anyone else for that matter). I call her out on shit that I think she got or did wrong as freely as I call anyone else out. But I do genuinely value not merely her attitude - though I do respect her contrarianism, to use your word - but a great many of her ideas and arguments. Since she never actually sat down and systematized her ideas like an Aristotle or a Kant, there's a lot of work to be done ironing out and clarifying if not modifying or rejecting her ideas, and that's work that I would love to be able to do, but she still gets the majority of the credit for the formulation and articulation of her ideas. My contrarianism and curiosity are absolutely key ingredients in the pie, but the majority of the ingredients are Rand's.

Yup. Obviously they weren’t going for this kind of story, but will anyone ever (please)?

Stupid me, I actually got my hopes up since...you know...it was on ESPN! So when it got all woke on me I was surprised and then had to kick myself for being surprised.

I didn't mention it there but in my initial Sherdog post, on the "pros" side of the pros-and-cons list, I mentioned that I did really love all those pictures and all that footage, particularly from his Hong Kong and Seattle days, before he made the move to California. I also desperately want to hear that full Alex Ben Block interview tape. He wrote the very first Bruce Lee biography, The Legend of Bruce Lee in 1974. I still have my dad's original copy. With the passage of time, I'd love to hear stuff straight from Bruce's mouth and to hear what all the questions were that Block had for Bruce writing about him before the Kung Fu Craze even popped off in the US.

Just watch it a few more times. You'll become numb to it.

I've seen it before actually, but man that has to be a shitty way to go. Drowning is one of the worst ways to go.

Where would you like to be on your last waking breath?
