I think the fact that they weren't arrested (and three aren't) then finding out about that cops past... Society just snapped. Had any of those cops have stopped it, or they be immediately taken to jail, a lot of this wouldn't be happening to this extent.

And the counter to that is that the police aren't held to the same standard we are and that's kind of the point.

I didn’t see it as all four needed arrested. Made sense to me they all got fired and the guy directly behind it is the one arrested. The others still might get arrested but I don’t see how the person behind this being fired and arrested leads to this. There were events that went way less favorably then this one in national news.

Only thing that seemed off was the county DA (I think that was the title) saying nothing to see here but getting overruled. He definitely didn’t handle it right if he was immediately shot down with his comments.

I don't know man. It's difficult. The other cops pinned him down, witnessed the murder, kept people from interfering.

I've also read of stories where a cop was fired for trying to intervene and I've been posting videos of cops planting drugs for a decade on this site. My main complaint always was "this is an underlying institutional problem that needs dealt with before it explodes" and that's kind of what's happening.

Would those police have been taken to jail if they were civilians, that's one of the major issues. This isn't hard to frame historically either. While the individual triggers of national civil unrest can be different, the root causes are apolitical and often very similar.

I don’t know if you can say the other three would be in jail if they weren’t cops cause the main reason you are saying they should be in jail is they were associated in the same group as that other cop. I wouldn’t be surprised if they got charged with something but you are saying the difference of the main guy vs all four is riot. I don’t buy that. The build up makes far more sense which is why I may find the timing weird.

I'm bouncing after this, the last few days have been pretty crazy, I've got friends all across the country that are protesting/rioting and I've been trying to interview, document as much as possible but.

I think had you stood on someone's neck for 9 minutes while I pinned their legs down and two other people helped I would he held for accessory.

I do think it's an accumulative effect though. I was speaking to my friend today who's grandmother was a Freedom Rider, this appears to be an extension of those protests/riots.

If those cops intervened though? Would have done wonders to calm an angry populace. Instead we saw cops help murder another man then not go to jail for it.

What's happening was bound to happen in my opinion.

I forgot about the footage where they are all on him and just though about the first one. I suppose it depends when he died but like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if they are charged too. Just makes complete sense the main one is already fucked at this point.

Yeah the other cops should have stepped in no questions about that,

The head and or throat kneel is a real life or death type scenario and has no practical use in a simple arrest that they had with George. Once the other cops arrived, they should have gone for arm control and just stood him up. If they had to keep him on the floor once back up has arrived there is no need for such a dangerous pin position on the head and neck. Switch it up, and let everyone restrain the guy safely. It doesn't help that the other cops had a "Heh, whatever" type attitude about it. A lot of bad cops fall into a 'Us VS Them' attitude and that makes them bad cops. Ideally police would hold themselves to higher standards and correct stupid mistakes in the field.

I think I need to start making a list of different posters strengths and special interests, in order to figure out how to engage with them most effectively and learn things.

For example, @Limbo Pete knows history, I think?
@JDragon is German, so is probably very knowledgeable re: scat porn.
I'm reasonably sure that @senri is a cannibal, so if food supplies start running low, probably a good source of recipes for human flesh. Apparently it has something to do with juices?
@Fawlty Elizabeth knows a lot about disk golf, which could be really useful to know more about if I have a psychotic break of some sort.
And apparently @Social Distance Warrior is the War Room's best chess player?

Anyone have any special talents they want to share so I know whose brain to pick next time I need more information? Anything beats the usual screeching, and the riots are making me lose the will to be online.

I suppose we have different viewpoints on that then. Maybe if the example were changed, this would all make more sense but I just think we found something everyone agreed on and managed to still cause division and violence for little reason.
Agreeing it’s bad and doing something about it are 2 different things.

And if it wasn’t caught on video, forget about it

I specialize in fucking your bitch and laying the pimp game down.

Allegedly.

Great post. But if I may, I think the fact that the police are traditionally immune from public standards. I find that due to the short term rise of the US as a superpower we tend to suffer when it comes to putting things into perspective historically.

It's also shows the discrepancy in morality based American politics, no American should he okay with seeing how the police is acting. The amount of people calling on murdering protestors is astonishing and reflects the hollow values we hide behind.

But there's almost no reason in discussing it anymore outside of with posters I respect. I've been accused of being an FBI pigeon and also getting pegged in Gitmo in the last two days.the discourse here has gotten to Facebook level.

A shame.
