What's your takeaway though? That there are actual, real problems in the US that remain unaddressed? Or that more people are pieces of shit than previously estimated?

My personal take would be both of the above and extra. There are real and recurring instances of racism all across the board, and systematic racism is a real thing. There's also the matter of laws and limitations being implemented to hold down minorities until recently, which has largely contributed to being behind the curve as a group. Police brutality has been one of the ongoing problems forever. The push should be to hold officers accountable for behavior in the same way we would anyone else. No paid leave, no "we didn't find fault", no go home and erase evidence before we investigate, a full overhaul to help decrease the amount of blatant injustice that happens. That can be true while also admitting we are going too far to the other end, as if minorities are some sort of inferior class that is a perpetual victim in need of saving at all times. If you want to treat people equal start by treating them equal. It does a disservice to treat minorities this way imo, and misdirects on the real issues or best ways to address them.

The riots specifically, I'm not buying any of this "must be top secret ninjas doing the bad stuff". No, humans are pretty scummy, especially in larger groups where they are too stupid to not follow along with what they see others do. What we saw was possibly the swiftest approach towards justice, at least that I can remember. Within days, dudes were fired, and charges were pressed. That's excellent news. How do we acknowledge it? By burning down local businesses? Threatening to burn down people's houses next? Robbing everything? Who is most impacted by that? How do you move forward with a message as a villain? The absurdity of it all is a prime highlight of how easily people as a whole will self-inflict their own wounds, and then blame someone else when it hurts.

I don't think Mustaine is so much the inventor of the palm muting technique as a pioneer in it's use and popularization in metal songwriting and structure. Are you guys familiar with John Schaffer with Iced Earth? He really takes that technique a step further.

And as mediocre as Hammet is I'm not sure he can unseat Lars as the Ringo of Metallica.

Hammet is definitely Ringo. James and Lars wrote basically all the songs. Hammett just writes solos that are sometimes good. There were more than a few times in their discography where I thought ''gee...I didn't really need to hear that Kirk.''

Interestingly, that aspect of home-ownership was brought up in the "don't buy a house, it's a scam" thread in the 'Berry. Someone mentioned how it seemed all his buddies were tied up with yard work or other maintenance chores every weekend. I didn't fully agree with the thesis of the OP or a lot of the other stuff in that thread, but I agree with the more basic idea that owning a home isn't for everyone.

Perhaps you could start paying local teens to do that for you. (edit:Take that at face value btw, no snark intended. I used to mow lawns and stuff when I was a teenager. It was a good way to pick up extra cash.)

I don't really use social media much, but my wife is saying that people she knows are on there supporting the riots, saying how local businesses being burned down and/or looted is just part of a bigger picture. Putting up some MLK quotes about how this is fine. It's one thing to see random online people saying it because you could attribute that to trolling or not being genuine, but when people who are supposed to be responsible good people support the riots it's really eye opening.

I think this is a more extreme example of coupling that @Jack V Savage talked about recently. The riots are being tied to a larger goal/ purpose and therefore are being justified by some people. Just crazy imo someone could go that far in doing so.
