haha I find him to be a genius, lyrically & in song writing.

it's hardly disputed, & rumored strongly that he created 'muffling' aka the palm muting technique in which now every single metal band implements. it's the sound that defines metal. the "CHUN CHUN CHUN" sound.

No. If you don't palm mute when you play into a lot of gain it'll just sound like ass. Country and Blues players palm mute and have been doing so for some time. If anything, mesa boogie has a lot more to do with the chun chun chun sound than anyone else.

next, there's no question that Metallica rose to stardom because of him. they kicked him out & acquired instantaneous success, from songs that he wrote/co-wrote. in "Kill 'em All" & "Ride the Lightning", all you hear is Mustaine's influence drenched in practically every song. Metallica finally acquired their own unique sound starting from "Master of Puppets".

I find this unconvincing. You could make the argument that he got them their first record deal because so many songs on Kill em all were written by him. But the best songs on Ride the Lightning had nothing to do with him, and Master of Puppets is their magnum opus, and their arrival as the biggest heavy metal band of all time. IIRC they were still opening for Ozzy when they released Master.

a lot of people rag on him for his singing, but to be honest - the man has range. he's honestly a great singer. he's just not as good as a singer live because he'd be playing technical riffs while singing in a completely different rhythm. that's why you might notice he often bites down on his teeth while singing live.

my biggest criticism of Mustaine is that he is terrible at solos. like God awful. the man can hardly keep a melodic flow going, where he usually just wings it. it blows my mind because his song writing is exquisite.

I can go on & on, & I don't say any of this as a "Megadeth bro" who hates Metallica.

in my youth, I was a die hard Metallica fan, but graduated to Megadeth after. Metallica just seemed too juvenile to me (still do). I couldn't look back. I moved on to the likes of Dream Theater shortly after to give you an idea of how much I appreciate technical songwriting & musical composition, but Megadeth is just the all around ideal band to me.

not to mention, Mustaine's music stands strong through the test of time. I keep coming back to them, & I grow to love his/their music more & more now as an adult.

the same goes for Pantera, but that's another can of worms. I've deep dived into how much I love them some months ago on here ( @HunterSdVa29 ).

I was a huge metallica fan boi back in the day, but yeah, it doesn't age very well. I hardly listen to them anymore. Master of Puppets and a few AJFA songs are still quite good, and some of the songs on Load/Reload are actually better now than when they were originally released (and first seen as a betrayal).

Megadeth has technicality over Metallica. Pretty much every lead guitarist who played for Megadeth is miles better than Hammett. I would gladly trade Hammett to Megadeth in exchange for Marty. Hammett is the ringo of metallica.

my bad, palm muting with distortion. that 'fresh' sound where & when metal was basically born (thrash metal, I know. semantics).

you say that now.

but soon I'll find you outside in my bushes.
In nature? In this pandemic? Riots going on? We both now I’m behind a locked door away from windows.

Sounds juicy.

Story time?
It can be as tame as bitching about the food they get at Cafe Rio which is like a knock off Chipotle to them being outside of a liquor store yelling about how all who go in to shop there are destined for Hell while shoving sodas into their grandkids hands.

Seems unlikely. King Diamond's ''Am I Evil?'' written in 1979 has the palm muting chugging already.

Its implied just by answering your question

But if you must be so proper ....How are you tonni ? Hows your weekend been going ? Really how are you doing in life right now right this moment ?
Been better.

like I said, it's been strongly rumored - but even though that's been recorded before any of Metallica's albums, the time frame is still pretty close. not denying it, but we don't know who created it but I've always heard of that Mustaine rumor as a kid.

who is your own personal axis of evil within politics?

What I mean is 3 individuals that just make you seethe with contempt.

Mine:

Reza Aslan
Paul Krugman
Adam Schiff

I don't really use social media much, but my wife is saying that people she knows are on there supporting the riots, saying how local businesses being burned down and/or looted is just part of a bigger picture. Putting up some MLK quotes about how this is fine. It's one thing to see random online people saying it because you could attribute that to trolling or not being genuine, but when people who are supposed to be responsible good people support the riots it's really eye opening.

What's your takeaway though? That there are actual, real problems in the US that remain unaddressed? Or that more people are pieces of shit than previously estimated?

(Both might be true)

@Prokofievian and @22k thanks for the metal discussion, I really needed it. I stepped in the pile of shit that is yesterday's "civil war" thread and I'm still shaking off the stench. A brief contribution...

I don't think Mustaine is so much the inventor of the palm muting technique as a pioneer in it's use and popularization in metal songwriting and structure. Are you guys familiar with John Schaffer with Iced Earth? He really takes that technique a step further.

And as mediocre as Hammet is I'm not sure he can unseat Lars as the Ringo of Metallica.
