So Wisconsin opened golfing. Sounds like a fine idea, as it’s easily a hobby able to do socially distanced

But, the courses won’t let you golf by yourself or with just another person from your household. They’re forcing everything into 4s

Teeing off and doing green work with 3 strangers for a few hours is the opposite of social distancing.

That sucks. I had wanted to be able to golf, but with an at risk person at home that’s not for me

Can’t wait until they pair a lone 70 year old finally able to get out for a round with 3 flu bros in their 20s. That doesn’t at all sound like a possible fatal mistake

I hate how I am craving an Egg McMuffin.

I could make it myself but I don't have a toaster or English muffins. GAH.

As much as I have griped about this on Facebook and shit I am glad that even with the talk that Salt Lake County will start slowly opening back up maybe at the beginning of May or mid May since we seem to have flattened the curve and hospitals are in a place where they are no longer overrun, I am glad that my favorite gun shop with an indoor range hasn't been running the range and are only letting in people that are 100% going to conduct business (IE, no window shoppers), and they're only letting them in in groups of like 5.

And the County gun range say on the 200 yard range has 20 benches but they're only letting 8 of them be used and you have to keep at least one empty bench between you and the next person.

this almost sounds like an episode of Curb.

Golf is somewhat safe I suppose, but there's no way a lone marshal scootering around the course is going to be able to enforce protocol.

Disc golfers are faced with the same dilemma. There is a lot of open space and it's totally possible to play it safely, but I can tell you that isn't happening. Around 25% of the groups are not doing it right.

Hangar toast, bro.

Our attorneys on my team are the shit. They got all the support staff $30 GrubHub gift cards.

Fuck yeah.

I need to find a wire hanger now.
You can even find other designs with a web search LOL

I have missed a lot of Trailer Park Boys. I wonder if they ever referred to one of those but it seems like it should have made an appearance at least once.

Speaking of missing shows, @22k ;)

Also @Jack V Savage or @Gandhi or anyone else knowledgeable - if you could choose one book to answer the question "why is economic growth so important?" which would it be? Mind making a recommendation? Imagine the question coming up in a conversation with an environmentalist who conflates economic growth with accelerated climate change, for example.

I've got an Maclean's article with like 20 references, but all of them seem not to hit the conceptual nail on the head. I've also got "Why Nations Fail" and "The Moral Consequences of Economic Growth" already, but somehow they aren't scratching the technical itch.

Hmm. Don't have a good answer to that. Doesn't seem like a book-length question. Obvious in developing countries, and in developed countries, it's correlated with demand for labor (and obviously total national income is going to grow with the population, unless we're seeing a declining average living standard). Aside from that, there's a political angle. More growth means more people can get what they want. And people tend to set their expectations based on the past, and they can get very upset if growth slows.

One of my favorite economic history books is the Rise and Fall of American Growth, by Robert Gordon. Part of the thesis (it's like 700 pages or a little more than 600 before it gets to the postscript and notes) is that the period of 1870-1970 was a unique, wildly unusual period. In making that point, it really illustrates the incredible changes in living standards that resulted from that period of explosive economic growth (not well-measured just by looking at GDP per capita, either). That's an issue that is still highly relevant to a lot of the developing world.

BTW, that book is probably the main source of my techno-pessimism, which is not to say that I don't expect continued, impressive technological innovation, just that I don't expect it to be as impactful as earlier changes. To illustrate that, compare gene therapy and not sweeping massive piles of horseshit into the water supply. The former is much cooler and more advanced (and is certainly worth doing and working out further), but the latter has had a much bigger impact on health outcomes.

Reason #12 why I want to live far beyond the normal human span. There's about a million TV shows on my "to watch" list.

man, J-Roc left the show though. pisses me off.. & then John Dunsworth..

Well, Dunsworth left the big show altogether, to be fair. RIP

And Torrens has at least 2 other shows on the go IIRC so I guess it's the price of success. Can't stand him in anything else though LOL. Too used to J-Roc. When he uses his normal voice it grates on me (through no fault of his, mind). On the other hand, he was the only one out of the whole bunch who was already successful in the business before TPB started. It's not surprising to me he would also be the one to move on to other things. TPB is the other guys' baby, not his. Which leads me to a whole other hilarious line of thought about leaving them to take care of the baby, but that's another story.

Seriously, everyone who voted for him or votes for Republicans generally should be hiding behind a potted plant rn.

@Gregolian M60 for $30k, yay or nay?
Can it go cyclic? And does it come with someone to set the links up for you?

If so yes.

I became really friendly with a local shop that has an indoor range and a couple NFA items they rent out... one of which is a belt fed machine gun and I helped them set the links up one day.

FUCK HAVING TO DO THAT.
