In all fairness to Microsoft, they finally realized that they don't have to keep fighting with Sony for scraps when they own the PC market outright. Satya Nadella is a fucking genius for finally pushing to seriously unify the platforms. Now Microsoft is in the drivers seat as far as performance, and the closer the Xbox gets to the PCs it's emulating, the more market share they capture at the top and mid ends.
Sony has the console market on lock right now, but PC gaming is a behemoth that they're going to have a bear of a time toppling. And the more Microsoft leverages that advantage, the worse it's going to get for them. With the Series X probably pushing $1000, the historical console upgrade cycles are going to become a thing of the past. The slower that cycle is, the more it benefits Microsoft.
