To the US? I never read anything about it. Plenty of guns were smuggled into the occupied six counties though.

There's a fun little rebel song called "my little Armalite". Historically Irish American organizations fundraised for the Republican cause. Even going back to the Easter Rising.
Like I know the Irish rugby team changes what their anthem is based on where they play cause of the lyrics to one of them got real, iffy, during the time of the Troubles.

I think this one is the original one. It got changed cause of the rather, well, military sound to it.

This is what is played now

I know the All Blacks are known for the Haka... there's something to me way more cool about hearing a team and the entire fucking stadium sing with them though.

The originals Irish Republican army we're active in the 20s decades before the provos, revived it iin the 60s, continuity carried on after the good Friday agreement cos they didn't want to give up arms, so called real ira are the most recent and active, but number a few dozens with no broad support among Catholics in Ireland, a distinction must be made between north and south, they have little to no support outside of border counties and parts of Belfast / derry.
The omagh bomb caused such blowback for Republicans, most neutrals don't distinguish between the various factions, that combined with Republicans being riddled with informers and getting busted, ops going wrong, and general pr disasters, the leadership finally abandoned Bombing their way to Irish unity. Bobby sands and the hunger strikers actually hardened attitudes against Republicans, even though they were martyr figures, and folk heroes amongst Sinn Fein supporters. I'd say omagh and the enniskillen bomb during rememberance Sunday was the end of armed struggle. International opinion turned against them big time, especially in the states.
I need you to know. This conversation is making up for me missing the St Pats block party where I ramble about Tom Barry.

Yeah the informer stuff is pretty wild. I also love in The Green Book they had a rule about not getting too drink at the bar because dudes would talk about their plans to try and fuck the waitress.

That's interesting about Bobby Sands though. I hadn't read or talked to anyone about that especially. I figured the H Block was such a heinous institution and letting them straight up die would harden the sentiment against the Loyalists.

He became a hero internationally. Him and Comandante Marcos from the Zapatistas were my two biggest heroes growing up. (Hell I got Tiocfaidh Ar La tattooed on my chest over ten years ago.)

How do you feel about the gains Sinn Fein has taken and do you think things might kick off if a hard border is enacted?

Shit like this makes Canada pretty awesome. No way I could finish O Canada for them

Fuck the Maple Leafs still though

God I'm not sure who is worse. The Trumpeters whining that poor people are getting money, or the couple of hard core berniebots who insist its really the democrat establishment causing the problem.

SSDs aka Solid State Hard Drives can be used both internally & externally (it's best to set them up appropriately, if they aren't already, if you plan on using them for the latter).

the simplest way I can put it is.. think of SSDs the same way you think of flash drives. HDDs (hard disk drives have a literal disk in them where as SSDs have no moving parts. so they perform a hell of a lot better/efficiently, consume less power, don't make noise, are smaller/weigh less & much more.

the downside is that they tend to have shorter life spans, unless of course you optimize the systems you have running on them &/or don't abuse them.

I'm not happy with this "explanation" but I'm just trying to explain this as simply as I can. there are so many flavors of SSDs too - delving into all of that would take forever, but I will upon request.

and SSDs are still a ways pricier. But once you go SSD, you can't go back.

Curious tho, even with a "shorter" lifespan, isn't it still much longer? and don't conventional ones break more often, so there's a trade off there too? I've had a few harddrives fail on me, never a SSD. may e just luck tho?

depends on which HDDs you use.

traditionally HGSTs (Hitachi) HDDs last forever, for the most part. I've not one that has failed me & the oldest ones I have are 10yrs old (I have 2 ThinkPad x201s from 2010 running Windows 7 that are still working fine without any issues).

I also have two 2TB Barracudas one 7yrs, & the other 5yrs that are working perfectly too. they're on my dekstop which crashed, not the HDDS (they were used for storage/media). my boot drive - a 500gb Kingston SSD, albeit from 2012, has crashed on me several times, but the recent crash is where it died for good.

the Barracudas are meant for servers. servers I'm sure you know are meant to run for the long haul & stay 'on'. sure, there's a lot of work & maintenance/security protocols (automatic & manual/physical) that need to be set in place for them but they're meant to be powerhouses specifically built with longevity & endurance being their anchors.

but yeah, for home use - I recommend HGST HDDs man, they're great. I only have one brand new 500gb drive left, & while they're not rare or expensive, their quality makes them valuable to me. but I'll hook up anyone who wants it - 10 beans. they usually got for about $15-$25 bucks depending on the manufactured date/model release.

I see, maybe I've just been unlucky with my HD experiences. Kind of off topic but have you seen this site?
https://www.designsbyifr.com/portfolio.html

The PCs this guy designs are amazing. I have a 3 year old digital storm that I love (though perhaps spent too much on) that still performs like a dream, but I hope to be able to buy something really cool like those designs with my next desktop. I'm surprised here aren't more site like that that make crazy custom shit that cool. I feel like there has to be a bigger market for it than people think.... but I'm probably just projecting.
