The anti-Chinese demagoguery has been sickening, with actual politicians and media figures (who routinely oppose safety and health and welfare regulations and whose home states have areas that are in worse economic shape than Wuhan) calling them uncivilized and accusing them of eating wild bats.

The worst imo are the dingi who are simultaneously complaining about China being totalitarian and also complaining that they haven't outlawed wet markets or forcibly quarantined their people en masse.

China deserves a ton of the criticism. If they had been upfront about the shit spreading instead of keeping silent for two weeks it might have allowed some countries to take steps. It's probably because I'm part Japanese and my mom never trusted China or ever had anything good to say about them when I was a child growing up but they can straight kick rocks and walk off a short pier over a very tall cliff as far as I am concerned.

The way they treat the Uyghurs, the way they have handled Tibet, the way they constantly ignore international laws and shit regarding the water between them and Japan, the way they try to claim Taiwan as part of China.

Fuck them.

Really hard for me to look at recent Sino-Japanese history and come away with more contempt for China than Japan. Japan 1850-1945 was unbelievably malicious.

Also, under reasonable historical terms, Taiwan is part of China, straight up. It was part of China, was conquered by Japan who then told the people to leave unless they renounce their Chinese identity and then slaughtered thousands, and was then established as a new state by literal Chinese nationalists following a civil war.

In fact, to this day 70% of Taiwanese identify as nationally or ethnically Chinese, even if a majority understandably also favor political independence.
